Default Crazy Thinking?

I`m thinking about drawing the hot air out of my attic and routing it into my dryer.I would use insulated flex AC ducting.Maybe an in-line filter and a shut off of some type to return to normal. My dryer dosent have a tumble dry cycle so I would have to turn the heater coils off some way.Any thoughts, suggestions or help would be great.

E.

Default Wow, that is some crazy thinking alright!!

OMG, that's really funny, but ya know, it just might work, one obsticle i can see is the quality of air from you attic, hot yes, but in most cases, very dirty, i would think a few filters would be in order.

Now about the heating element, i would personally leave it hooked up, it's doubtfull that the attic, as hot as it is, won't be able to heat things up by itself.

theres another problem, the inlet air to the dryer is AT the element, you could pipe it in directly. i guess its an either or situation, remove the element and pipe in attic air or attatch the vent over the element and risk burning it out with poor air flow.

I guess all in all it would be tough to do without bypassing several safeties in the process, dangerous at best.

If i were going to do this, I would use an old dryer and alter it , but keep your good dryer in backup for the winter. as a technician i would have to say: Don't try it.

My attic is 105 right now.Im thinking it gets 120-130 up there.Overcast all day 78 outside.Im including the schematic with this post. Not sure how to bypass the coils and allow motor to run.Maybe a breaker mounted on the control panel? Fridgidaire FDEB34RGS0.Inlet is on back, just a grill, easily replicated for pipe.

Default standard dryer

If its a standard electric dryer, the motor is 110 v, the element is 220 v, disabling one leg from the power cord will do it, basically turning a 220 volt machine into a 110 volt one, but again i wouldn't recomend it, also the element heats the dryer upwards around 180 degrees or so. i don't think it's a going to work as well as you hope.
