I can hear the motor turning but nothing dispenses. The chute door is opening fine. It is the same whether we chose cubed or crushed. Has anyone else experienced this and resolved it?

Our Kenmore fridge of about 13 years seems to be operating erratically. The other day we noticed that the freezer temperature was about 20°F. The compressor was running. It seemed like the compressor was running for hours and not properly cooling. I figured that the compressor may be getting weak. Due to the age of the fridge we decided to just buy a new one. After coming home from placing an order, lo and behold - the freezer was at 0°F! It seemed to run fine and maintain temperature for a couple days, so I figured that the cooling system was in fact OK.

Now the freezer is back at 20°F. Compressor is running constantly and the freezer is staying at 20°F. Any ideas?

Hi I read through several pages and tried some of the troubleshooting that I read about. This ice maker 106 626662 is not dispencing water. I jumped V-L and water came out. I jumped T-H and nothing. I am thinking you will tell me it is the ice maker and I want to double check that the part number for replacement is 1471727. The fridge model is 106.54546400

Do I still need to check at the solenoid if I jumped V-L?
Thank you

The icemaker had been making ice fine, but on occaision (once every few months) it would get stuck unloading and I'd have to clean it out. I have been able to do this without removing the icemaker until recently. It got really stuck and after that it was very slow to make ice and now it won't make ice at all.

The optics are blinking with 2 pulses, 1 sec pause, and repeat. I've tried cleaning the optics, closing the optic door and making sure the switch is in the on position, but it continues to blink. Is this faulty optics (which seems rare) or is it some bigger issue with the icemaker itself? The icemaker unit was replaced under warranty around the 2 year mark.

Thanks!

I came to this site and checked the relay to the compressor. it was burnt to a crisp. i have now replaced the relay but the compressor is not kicking on. I took an ohmmeter to the 3 prongs on the compressor and i get 0 resistance across them but i am not sure if that is normal or not. the compressor cooling fan has not turned on either. Any suggestions? everything else is running. The unit is almost 10 years old

Hello! I have read considerably about water leaking into the Fridge from the freezer. This is a freezer on top model. I've searched all over the sears page looking at exploded diagrams and can't seem to find where the drain hose is. I removed the bottom panel in the freezer, and oddly found two holes on either side of the "air column".. they are lined in Styrofoam and seem to be purposefully there. Just seemed like a strange design to me. The bottom of the freezer is somewhat frosted over, so I'm kind of just amusing it is a drain problem. The freezer has only been on a few months, and the problem started not long after turning it on, so I'm guessing its a clogged and frozen drain line.

My question is where is the drain tube, and do I have to remove the back panel of the freezer (and also the ice maker) to get to it? Removing the ice maker seems like a bit of a task. I also have a lot of food in the freezer, and don't really want to totally unplug and defrost the unit, although I would if it would fix the problem.

Could you guys also supply some information about removing the ice maker on a model like this one?

Thanks a ton! love the site!

Good evening,

I have a diagnosis and would like to see if I am on the right track...see what you think.

I have an older Kenmore ColdSpot 106.50562992 and noticed it was warming up. In years past the start relay went out and was replaced under the manufacturer warranty. Fast forward to 2010, warming up again and the compressor was hot to the touch...condenser fan running normally...I removed the start realy and overload and found that it rattled when shook. I purchased a new start relay/overload kit and installed it and it began cooling again but after about 18 hours the temp had only dropped about 12 degrees in the fridge side...freezer was COLD...and noticed the compressor had shut off. My relay kit came with 2 relays one for a 20-22 cu ft and one for a 25-27 cu ft...thinking my fridge was the 25, I used that relay. After that 18 hour time period I decided that maybe I used the wrong relay and removed it and noticed that it too "rattled". I took the 2nd relay out of the package and guess what...it rattled too???? I used the 2nd relay that came in the kit and again everything started to cool again, but the fridge was still not getting cool enough and occassionally the relay would "click". Through a bit of cursing and name-calling I finally determined that there was no air getting to the fridge side from the Evaporator fan. I used my volt meter and found I had 120v to the motor but it wasn't running. I removed the motor to find that the winding had burnt from the terminal and when I pulled the wire off the terminal...I ripped the terminal right out of the motor.

My question at this point is...if the Evaporator fan is not running, will it cause the compressor to cycle off as I described? I'm wondering if I don't have another issue. Before I found the motor the way it was, I was beginning to think the defrost timer was cycling it off.

Will my diagnosis fix it or do I have another issue to boot?

I returned from vacation last week to find my fridge and freezer both quite warm. My popsicles had all melted. I turned the controls on both the freezer and fridge up to 5 (they were at 2 or 3 before) but it didn't seem to make too much of a difference. My popsicles are just slushy now.

After reading the forum it seems like the problem could be something with auto defrost? The top third of the back panel of the freezer looks frozen solid with lots of ice build up. What should I do next?

I just bought the house less than a year ago so I'm not sure exactly how old the fridge is. It doesn't look very old to me. Is the auto defrost issue, if that's what's wrong, a common problem for Kenmore?

I'm not sure what exactly is going on. For the two years I've lived in this house I have noticed that sometimes the ice cream in the freezer close to completely melted and sometimes it's rock hard and fine. I've even notice that sometimes when I open the the door to the refrigerator that there is a lot of condensation on everything inside. I don't know if these issues have happened at the same time or not. It does seem like the compressor runs more than it should. I have heard it click loudly on and off. Unfortunately I haven't made detailed observations of how it runs. Any ideas of things I could check on or possible problems?

Seems like this is a fairly common problem, my freezer seems to be fine, but my refrigerator just isn't getting cold.

It is a Kenmore "Frostless 20" Side by side, I spent some time working on it this evening.

Here is what I did:

1: Clean a load of lint/dust/dog hair out of the condenser coils. Fan is running, and compressor is hot.
2: Remove and inspect air scoop in freezer, and removed a bunch of frost/ice.
3: Remove and inspect diffuser, removed a little ice, it seems to be fine, it is mechanical, so not much to go wrong. There is airflow.
4: Checked for clogged Return Air Vent Grille; there was some ice around the opening in the freezer, but I poured hot water in, and it flowed all the way through.
5: I checked the coils, and there was only frost on the bottom half, however by the time I got that far, I the door had been opened for quite a while, not sure if this can be caused by an open door.

It has also been very hot the last 2 days, with temps in the house above 90ºF.

I do not have a thermometer in the fridge, but I did shoot some stuff in it with an IR thermometer, and the items are around 60ºF. It is surface temp, so not sure if that is meaningful.

Where is the temp sensor for the thermostat?

My concern is that while the fridge temp is way too high, turning the unit off and back on at the thermostat, it doesn't kick on until "4". I suppose that wouldn't be a problem if the temp sensor is in the freezer though.

I am going to let it run overnight, and see where I am in the morning, but is there anything else I should look at?

Could the door not closing properly cause the ice buildup?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi,

I have a Kenmore side by side that has a huge pool of ice in the bottom of the freezer section. I cleaned it out and two days later there is a small puddle of ice again already. I don't see an ice trail coming down, but I'm guessing that it must be coming from the ice maker up above (I don't think there's any other water on the freezer side). The only thing that makes sense is if the inlet valve in the back were letting water past the valve and it was dripping down from the fill cup. But I don't see the ice build up that I would have expected to see. Anyone got a guess? Thanks!
The temp in the freezer ranges from 17-26. The refrigerator side is set to 3. The freezer temp seems to fluctuate and stuff isn't frozen SOLID like before. She puts in a yogurt container but it doesn't freeze solid. Everything is clean, vacuumed under and in the rear. There's no problem with the refrigerator side, just the freezer side seems to not be as cold as before. What needs to be replaced ? Thanks for the information.
