Angry Frigidaire Model FRS26R4CW0 - Frozen Refrigerator Side, and now leak above water Filter Assy

Hi there,

I have a Frigidaire Side by Side Model # FRS26R4CW0

About 3 days ago, I noticed a 2-liter of soda frozen. I assumed my son mistakenly put it in the freezer and then moved it back to the refrigerator.

Yesterday I noticed other things were getting frozen in the refrigerator, so I moved it from the factory setting of 3.5 to 3.0 no help, yesterday I moved it to 2.0 no help.

Today, I the water dispenser quit working. I figured it was frozen up, so I cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer and thawed it out.

Well, now the water dispensor still doesn't work. Any time I try to get water, it all comes out from above the filter on the refrigerator side. ARRRRGH!!!!

I know I have to replace some plastic part that broke, but there is a special tool to remove the plastic housing.

Do you have a source for the tool to remove the housing?

Assuming I also need to replace some sort of switch, do you have an idea as to the part number(s) for the broken frozen plastic parts, the switch and diagrams / instructions on replacing all of them?

HELP!!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Shannon Tarpley

Hi Shannon,

Which part broke from this parts diagram here:

Sounds like you'll need a new filter housing assembly.

Here's the one for your model, you can also order the plastic wrench that removes the cup assembly to change the filter and the water filter from this link too:
Manufacturer part#241521304 is RepairClinic item#1013832

For the freezing problem in your refrigerator section, you'll likely need this control kit:
Manufacturer part number 5303918283 is RepairClinic item number 948779

I've had to change a lot of those control kits. Seems to be a common problem with that model.

Thumbs down

Do you know what type of screw holds the outer cover on?

Also, where on the refrigerator is the control unit?

Thanks,

Shannon T.

These screws should be either Philip's head or 1/4" head.

The control unit is mounted inside the refrigerator section on the top left side, but it comes out as an assembly, which means you also have to remove the front control console as well, its just held on but 1/4" head screws, I use my 1/4" nut driver to remove them.
