Default Bearing question

Like many others, I bought a lemon (the wonderful Frigidaire washer GLTF1670A). As expected, the "spider arm" is broken. According to what I can see in the manual, that "spider arm" is attached to the spin basket and is considered as only one part so it should be covered by the warranty. I keep my fingers crossed. But while I'm there I'm wondering if the bearings are in good condition or not. How should I know? The bearings that are inside the tub seems to be fine. They spin very well. But on the side off the rear outer tub (near the pulley), it's not spinning at all. Is it supposed to spin? Is it just a seal?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. It is a wonderful and very useful website.

Hi,

No, you won't see the bearing spin on the outside by the pulley, as long as the pulley spins the inner tub good, then that should be fine. But its always better to change the bearing whenever you install a new inner basket assembly.

Default Belt keep falling off...

Hi, I have been having difficulty with my Frigidaire Gallery frontloading washer. The belt keeps falling off when it starts the high speed spin. I put a new belt on this week and the problem continues. I noticed that the belt is rubbing on the plastic on the back of the basket assembly, partially falling off the front of the spider-wheel. I tried moving it toward the rear by sliding it to the back edge of the motor shaft, but it still rubs on the plastic. If the belt is on the back edge of the motor shaft, it will fall off the motor shaft during a high speed spin. If it is in the middle of the shaft, it falls off the inside of the spider wheel.

Any suggestions? The washer does bang quite a bit when it enters the high speed spin to...do you think a bearing problem would make the belt that far out of alignment? I don't notice any play in the spider wheel when I try to wiggle it with my hand, and the inner basket seems pretty firm in the rear.

I really appreciate any advice!\

Ben

Hi Ben,

Yes, it sounds like your bearing is out and spider arms are broken, this thread link explains everything:
[FIXED] Drum Gasket and Rear Shell Bearings

Its a very big job to change your bearing/tub assembly, and very costly for the parts if you get the complete assembly, so if your machine has alot of age on it, its probably better to save your repair money for a new washer.
