My shiny Frigidaire FRS23H5AB9 is having cooling problems.
I moved it from MI to GA last December. It ran good in the garage for a couple of weeks. Moved it upstairs to the kitchen, it ran good there for 7-8 months, but the condenser fan was a little noisy. My friend came down from MI to visit, heard the condensor fan noise, he took the back off of the unit, pushed the plastic condenser fan blade back onto the shaft (it was almost completely off), once again the unit was quiet and ran well, no noticable damage to fan or condenser coils/fins. The next morning, after my friend had left to return to MI, I reached for some ice cubes, but found everything in the freezer thawing out. Note: There was never any suspicous frost/ice buildup in the unit, no dust/grime/fuzz/hair etc. The unit still looked brand new inside and out. Condensor & evaporater fans both were working, compressor was hot to the touch, but not running, no cooling. I had an appliance repair tech stop over, he said he would put a "3 in 1" in for a mere $200, we said our goobyes. I installed a $15 "3 in 1" (Sumpco RCO410, should have been a URCO41, maybe?) , which got the compressor running, fans all worked, in a couple hours the temp got down to around 30 degrees (F) in the freezer. I was preparing to celebrate when the 15-amp breaker supplying my lovely Frigidaire tripped. In a while I reset the breaker, plugged the unit back in, it returned to it's previous condition of condensor & evaporater fans both working, compressor was hot to the touch, but not running, no cooling. Ohmmeter reads almost 2 ohms between common-start, common-run, run-start. Ohmmeter showed open when between compressor chassis and the above mentioned compressor connectors (common, run and start). If anyone has any suggestions for what to do next, please let me know. Thanks for reading. |

Hi,
Sounds like your compressor is locking-up on you, I see this happen alot on the Frigidaire models as yours. You have a 5 yr. parts and labor warranty on the sealed system , which includes the compressor, Its time to look for a Authorized Frigidaire Servicer in your area. Jake

Thanks for the reply Jake
I am wondering if they will still honor the warranty if I have tampered with parts, etc? ![]() |

Thats a good question, I doubt they will since you have already put that 3-1 start kit in, now if a authorized Frigidaire Tech. put that in, then you would be ok.
If that Appliance shop you called at first was a Frigidaire authorized servicer, then you should be ok. Jake
