Default Fridgeadair FFU20F9GW2

Low Temp alarm came on on the upright freezer this past weekend. Model FFU20F9GW2. It is 10 years old, guy at the appliance store said there was a recall but I couldn't find anything on it and wasn't sure. He said also it would be $160 to charge it since it was probably low on freon and $600 to repair all the fittings if there was a leak. Is he being straight up or trying to pull one. Searched on here but didn't find anything on the recall.

Thanks for all the great help in the past as you have helped me repair dishwashers, dryers, and washers!

Hi,

Actually the guy at the appliance store is partially right, there wasn't an official recall, just an upgrade compressor kit which included a new compressor, heat exchanger, evaporator and condenser. If this problem happened within the first 5 yrs. then it would be covered by your warranty for parts & labor as the cost for all this would be about $600 out of warranty.

One of our first threads back in 2004 explained everything:
kenmore upright freezer 253.
The Kenmore 253 model is made by Frigidaire and its identical to yours.

So since yours is 10 years old, it wouldn't be worth the cost to fix it.
