Default FTF530FS0 - won't start any cycle

Problem: a few weeks ago the washer wouldn't start the high speed spin. I didn't have a chance to troubleshoot and then a few weeks later it wouldn't even start a cycle. You pull the timer knob out to start and the only thing that happens is the Door Lock light turns on and a low hum comes from the timer.

My dumb troubleshooting: checked that the drain lines weren't clogged (a friend recommended that), did tests in tech sheet and got even more confused. As near as I can tell, the pinout on the harnesses going into the speed control board have changed so that tech sheet isn't quite up to date.

So, I'm down to thinking this is either the timer, the speed control board, or the door latch assembly. I read the sticky thread on the door latch assembly, but I can't figure out how to get the front panel off to check that latch - or even exactly what that test is since I no longer have the "high speed spin" problem. The timer looks completely mechanical, so my hunch is the timer is working fine.

Question 2: while doing tests, do I need to have water connected to make the pressure switch trigger?

Hi,

Here's the tech data sheet directly from Frigidaire's website for your model:
ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo.../134576100.pdf

Does it wash and not spin? or does the tub not turn at all?

If the tub doesn't turn at all its likely the motor speed controller board.

Here is the speed control board for your model:
Spin control board assembly

All parts come with a 30 day full refund, even if you installed them.

Thanks Jake.

Right - the tub doesn't turn at all.

Now, I did the tests in the PDF you referenced, but I got hung up on step #4 where it says: "Set the timer to the Heavy Wash..." The 10-pin connector it references on the speed control board doesn't seem to have an actual pin at pin 2 and the other voltages are wrong. (I'm thinking they may have changed the harness between the FTF530ES0 and the FTF530FS0?) When it says timer contacts 1B and 1C, 5B and 5C, etc I don't understand where those contacts are - they aren't explained anywhere. Does it mean checking the voltages between the two wiring harnesses?

Ok, I remember another member that mentioned something about the pins being different, here's the thread Steven talked about it and found:

No, not voltage readings on the timer contacts.

It means to check the timer contacts with an ohm meter for continuity. A "closed" contact means continuity, an "open" means NO continuity.

Make sure your washer is unplug first for ohm testing.

Default What now?!?!

Okay, I think I need some more help. I'm really confused now.

I ordered both of these parts from you. Then I replaced them both - speed control board and the door latch. I'm sure only one of these was the problem, but I did both while I had it apart.

Okay, now we're kind of back to the original problem but with a new twist- it goes through most of the cycle, but at some point during the spin cycle it just stops and hangs up. I don't think it's the high-speed spin cycle, I was mistaken before. I think it's just some kind of spin cycle. Anyway, if I advance it past there, it will continue to the high-speed spin cycle. EXCEPT.. the high-speed spin cycle is WAY too high speed. You wouldn't believe it - the washer looks like it's going to take off it's spinning so fast. This is WAY beyond normal. However, being the masochist I am, I let it continue on and it seemed to spin for the right amount of time before shutting off.

Anyway idea what's going on? Is the new speed control board bad? Could this have anything to do with the timer?

Yes, it sounds like your is bad as well.

Don't know if you want to spend more money on it, but you can return the speed control board and the door latch if you want, and put the repair money into a new washer, or get the timer.

Here's the timer for your model:
