Default GLTF1670AS0 Spin Questions

Hi,

Having issues with my Frigidaire Gallery, manf in 2002, spin issues. Found this site Wednesday (great site!), and the sticky note about door switch made sense as the locking tab on the door was broken and I believed the switch could be damaged as well. While I had it apart I reseated the contacts between the motor control and motor, cleaned out the pump trap (found fifty cents) and did some general cleaning. Short story long, the switch and latch didn't fix the spin issue.

I took a deep breath, walked away and had a hobby trip to MO yesterday, didn't think about it at all.

Resumed troubleshooting this morning, after downloading the tech sheet and putting a new battery in my multimeter, and started the washer in the "delicate" cycle mode just to drain the tub after it had sat.

Lo and behold, it spins! Ran a delicate cycle again, it spins again. Tried it in the "whites" cycle, it spun in the middle, but not at the end (or else I was too impatient). Trying it again in the "color" cycle, to see if it'll spin, or just sit and hum as the drain pump works.

My question, at this point. Could this be the timer rather than a motor control board or motor issue? Motor spins (almost levitates the whole machine on the "high" speed). Motor control seems to work to run it on the delicate cycle. I guess I'm looking for flaws in my logic (before spending $146.00 on a timer).

Default Won't spin, take 2

Surprisingly, now it spins on all cycles! I've run 4 test loads, 2 through the colors cycle that didn't spin Thursday evening, but now it does work.

I still wonder if the timer is starting to go...

Thoughts?

Hi Doc,

So you installed a new door latch assembly and it didn't fix it?

Its rare the timer would cause this problem, its either the speed control board or the motor itself.

Here's the online tech. data sheet for your model:
ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo.../134458900.pdf
Did you do all the steps to verify if it was the motor or speed control board?

Default More washing, mixed results

We washed additional loads, and all but had good spin cycle. I guess I'll need those troubleshooting steps to see what's going on. Will the motor control and/or motor give uncertain symptomology?

It depends, I've seen both do the same thing if either one is bad, its even worse when its intermittent.

Here is the speed control board for your model:

Here is the motor for your model:

All parts come with a 30 day full refund, even if you installed them.

Default Buzzing door latch?

Jake,

Wife ran a load through the machine while I was out, when I returned it was buzzing, differently than the pump running, and not spinning. When I pushed the door in a bit, jiggled it around, the buzzing stopped and it ran, although not on spin. When I ran the circuit around the dial and tried a few settings, it finally liked the spin cycle on delicates.

I'll probably get the multimeter out (it has a new battery) and run through the troubleshooting steps this week.

You offer money back on electrical parts for 30 days! That's amazing, my local appliance repair part reseller doesn't on electrical parts (what part in a modern appliance isn't!).

Anyway, I'll keep you posted as I run through the steps. Does a buzzing door latch/lock indicate bad switch, or just a reluctant door?

Hi Doc,

Yes, it does sound like your door latch/lock assembly is bad since its buzzing like that.

Here's the door latch/lock assembly for your model:

Yup, not many appliance parts places would ever consider refunding electrical parts.
