Default Frigidaire Side by Side stopped cooling

One afternoon I noticed the Water dispenser had stopped working, The next morning the Fridge side was warm, and the stuff on top shelf of the freezer was thawed. Compressor was hot to the touch. I put the food in another smaller fridge, and unplugged the main fridge ( a Frigidaire GLHS269ZCW4 ).
When I got home from work I plugged it in again, and it started cooling the freezer and fridge, AND dispensing water but that only lasted about 20 minutes before the compressor stopped again... and also the water, Opinions?

Hi,

Sounds like your compressor may be bad. You should have a 5 yr. parts & labor warranty on the compressor from Frigidaire.

Was the condenser fan that sits next to the compressor running?

Hi, Jake,

yes the condenser fan was running, but I didn't hear that typical compressor sound, but the compressor was hot, but not too hot to be able to keep my hand on it for ten or fifteen seconds.

Any chance it was a relay or starter or something else?

The odd thing was the water dispenser stopping, and then starting after a cool down.

thanks, Caldow

The way I test the compressor start device is to ohm the 2 terminals on it with an ohm meter for continuity (0-1 ohms), if you get that, then its the compressor thats bad.

Here's the compressor start device for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 241527803

I mean, I have found the Starter Device, unplugged it from the compressor, extracted the capacitor, but I don't know how to get the starter connector unplugged, do I just reef on it, wiggling back and forth till it pops over those two little tabs ?

thanks, Caldow

OK Jake,

I just used a screw driver to pry up the connector, then detached the wires from the two terminals. I got no reading with the ohm meter, no conductivity. what does that tell you. Is it the start relay, or capacitor?

Thanks again, Caldow

Ok, then if you got no reading at all on it with the ohm meter, then your start device relay is bad, you will need to order the new one I posted above.

Thanking you in advance,

So the Starter is bad, but I can still use the Capacitor? Also I may have broken the first rule of taking things apart, there were two wires attached to the Starter, a heavy gauge Red, and Blue. I think I kept them in order, the Red going to the " L " terminal, and the Blue going to the " N " terminal ???

Thanks again, Caldow

Yes, you can use the same capacitor.

Yes, Red to the "L" terminal - Blue to the "N" terminal on the compressor start relay.

Just a word of warning: The compressor piston inside the compressor can still be bad even though you ohm tested the compressor terminal pins.

So if you install the new compressor start relay and it doesn't fix the problem, then you would definitely need a new compressor.
