Default Frigidaire fphs2387kf1 is not cold

    Model Number: fphs2387kf1
    Brand: Frigidaire
    Age: 1-5 years

    Hi all,

I purchase this Frigidaire fphs2387kf1 refrigerator about 1 1/2 years ago. As of today, the fridge is not working and cooling for both freezer and fridge area. I can hear the compressor running but my display panel shows the follow temperatures. I started noticing the problems with the refrigerator yesterday when i saw a small pool of water collecting by the floor near the freezer

    Freezer = 0, Fridge = 58

Below are some of the troubleshooting I've done so far.
    -Power off the unit
    -Removed power plug
-reset circuit breaker for kitchen electrical

After briefly browsing this forum, some people mentioned that the fan may be defective which is causing the fridge to not cool on both sides? How do I check for the fan and what else should I look out for? Thank you!

Check and make sure both fans are working. The evaporator fan is in the freezer section and the condenser fan is by the compressor. Make sure the condenser coils are clean and air flow across them is not restricted. See if the compressor is running. Frost or ice on the back wall of the freezer section would indicate a defrost problem.

Thanks for the reply I will give this a shot tonight when I return home.

    1. Where is the evaporator fan located inside my freezer?

    2. Where is the condenser fan located by the compressor?

    3. This morning I turned off the fridge, this should defrost everything right?

    4. Since the fridge is fairly new, will the condenser coils be dirty? The fridge is was purchased last year in April

Behind the back wall of the freezer section.

This model refrigerator is frost free. If you have frost or ice build up in the freezer section then there is a defrost problem and that would be why the refrigerator section isn't cold.

Are there any special tools required to take off the back wall inside the freezer? Or can I just pull it out with my hands? Are there any videos or pictures on how to take this apart?

    Thank you!

    FREEZER REAR PANEL REMOVAL

No special tools needed. You will need a Phillips screw driver and 1/4" nut driver. If you plan to do any testing, you'll also need a multi-meter that's capable of reading AC Volts, DC Volts, and Ohms/Continuity.

    Hi all,

I was able to find some time to troubleshoot my fridge today.

I left it powered off for over 24 hours and empty the entire fridge. I removed all the shelves and back panel in the freezer to inspect the evaporator fan. I can see that the fan is spinning good and the coils are very cold with frost. I am not sure if the fridge is working 100% yet but please let me know what else I can do.

    1. I can hear the compressor fan (from bottom of fridge) spinning. Does that mean the fan is good?

    2. The coils inside my freezer is cold, that means my compressor is good right?

    3. I have a double side by side door fridge and the air CFM on the fridge side seems weak, is that normal? I do not have anything blocking as the fridge is completely empty.

    4. A side by side fridge has two fans right? one inside the freezer and the other one under the fridge for the compressor? IF both fans are spinning, coils are ice cold, this should mean the fridge is in good working order?

    5. How do I test the heater to see if that works?

Update: it's been 10 mins since I left the fridge on. The Freezer is cold, I can see the coils with a thin layer of frost. The fan above the coils (evaporator fan) is spinning. However, the fridge side is still warm, 81 degrees and the air is weak coming from the top left where my filter is located. Is this normal? the filter is clean and there is no blockage.

No one makes a "Super" refrigerator yet so untill they do, let's give it about 3 or 4 hours to see if it's cooling.

I left the fridge off for 24 hours because earlier this week the fridge was not working. All the food spoiled and after removing everything I decided to power the unit off to save electricity.

But today after I removed the panel, I can see everything working. This is weird, should I put everything back? What may of cause the fridge to not cool and then work fine today after I open it to take a look?

According to your first post, the machine was working, it just wasn't cold enough in the refrigerator section. Now that it's been unplugged and defrosted we're going to have to wait until the unit stabilizes. That can take a while so hang in there and keep an eye on it.
