washer machine wont fill properly
Brand:
Frigidaire
Age:
1-5 years
When starting a load, the machine will begin to fill, then will begin to drain before reaching load level. Have ran on small setting, sometimes good, sometimes not. Grinding noise comes from drain region on back at bottom. Hose is high enough. This started when we moved to a new house, moving the machine.

You can remove the front panel. Check the pump for anything that might be caught in it.

When it drains while filling do you hear the drain motor come on?
Do you have any duct tape on the drain hose to the standpipe? You need air to get in to the standpipe to cause the water not to siphon out even if the drain hose is high enough.
I've also seen if the drain hose is pushed to far down the standpipe it will cause a siphon effect as well.

Hose has no tape on it. Drum will filll and then begin to drain, usually without a noise. Will check the drain pipe into the hose.
What could be causing the noise (grinding souond), when switching between cycles?

The noise could be your drain pump motor, check your drain pump motor, a few other members found a foreign object in it and causing the noise.
Its very easy to get access to the drain motor. Lots of times I see these get clogged with stuff and not drain properly as well, just remove the hoses that connect to it and check to see if anything is inside it.
The drain motor is located inside the bottom of your washer, you just remove the front panel(on your model you have 2 screws at the very bottom, just remove those and the front panel will slide down and out) and get a flashlight or droplight to see under there.
Here's the drain motor for your model, in case you need to order it:
