Kenmore 417 washer switches to "No Spin" mode at rinse time & won't spin in diagnostic mode
Brand:
Sears Kenmore
Age:
6-10 years
Kenmore washer model 417.44052401 (Good model) built 01/2006. The washer tumbles properly (Door Locked, Add Garment and Washing lights are lit) but at the point of the first rinse it immediately switches itself to No Spin (previously set to Medium) and turns off the Add Garment and Washing lights. It forcefully pumps out all of the water (pumps for approximately 45 seconds) and then shuts off with only the Door Locked light lit. The door is locked.
In diagnostic mode, 8 clicks from the start position (Drain/Spin), the drain pump and door lock solenoid activate but the washer does NOT spin. Instead, it blinks out error code E43.
I installed a jumper from J2/1 to J5/1 as suggested by picura in a previous post. Washer tumbled properly but at the point of the first rinse it turned off the Door Locked light, lit the Final Spin and Start lights and did nothing else. Pressing the Start button has no effect. In diagnostic mode today it operates same as without the jumper above; last evening it would tumble at the beginning of rinse (which I think is normal) but would not spin. Oddly, the wire attached to J2/1 was the red/black wire, not the black wire as in picura's post.
Please advise and thanks.

With the control board switching itself to different setting, I'd say thats the problem, your control board is the problem.
Here's the control board for your model you can order here:

Jake,
Thanks for the advice. I got the new control baord and that did fix the problem. The washer now completes the entire wash, rinse and spin cycles normally. I was surprised that part 137005010, which is a manufacturer substitution for the original part # 134484001, does not have the J8 connector for the dispenser drawer reed switch. The washer works fine but will now continue to operate whether the dispenser drawer is open or closed. Thanks, again.

Yes, they have eliminated the dispenser drawer reed switch permanently now.
Good job, glad to hear the new control board fixed it.
