Frigidaire side-by-side fridge side not cooling, but freezer side is
I have a Frigidaire Model - FRS26ZRG that is working fine on the freezer side for the past 24 hours, but the fridge side is not cooling. The unit is 7 years old.
There is ice build-up on the back of the freezer. I can hear the fan in the freezer running, but it doesn't seem like the refrigerator ever kicks on. Does this sound like a compressor issue ?

Hi,
There is ice build-up on the back of the freezer
?Ice? or ?frost?
Frost would more indicate a frost free failure....

Thank you Jeff. I took off the back panel and I can see that there is frost over all of the evaporator coils. I left the panel off and turned the freezer back on and air is now flowing to the fridge side again. This was much less painful than letting the whole fridge sit empty for 2 days to defrost
From what I read, it looks like that narrows the problem down to :
The defrost timer
The defrost thermostat (also called the bi-metal switch)
The defrost heater
Does that sound about right to you ? Still trying to figure out where they are hiding the defrost timer. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.

Yes.
Too short.

Some are behind the kick panal on the bottom left at the front...some are beside the controls in the FF section.

Man, you are good. I found the real model # FRS26ZRGW8.
I confirmed that the defrost timer is on the front left behind the kickplate on this model. It sure was hidden, it was about the last place I looked.
I was able to put it into defrost mode and I see the glow of the heating element behind the evaporator coils. Looks like I need to replace the defrost timer.
Thanks for all of your help !!

Ok, one more question. I ordered a new defrost timer, but now it seems that the old timer is working correctly. The defrost is kicking on as it should and there is no frost build-up on the coils. Does this mean that there could be some other problem, or is it just that the defrost timer will eventually get stuck again, so I should replace it ?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi,
I ended up replacing the defrost timer and everything was working fine for a couple weeks, but now the frost problem has happened again. This time, when I put the (new) defrost timer into defrost mode, the defrost did not come on. I used a hair dryer to defrost the coils and then when I tested the defrost timer again it worked.
Does anyone have a recommendation ? Should I replace the thermostat ?
Thanks in advance.
