Default Frigidaire stacked washer eating belts

Great forum! I've done some searching / reading, and I have found some information that may apply to my problem, but nothing definitive.

Stacked washer/dryer (Kenmore brand, I think it's a frigidaire):
Kenmore model #: 417.99463100

Symptoms: Burned belt.
Investigate: Washer motor noisy, tensioner spring broken, water pump worn.
Attempted repair: Replace washer motor, idler/tensioner pulley and spring, slinger washer, water pump, and belt.
Result: Belt still slipping during spin -- little or no tub movement during spin. Belt would burn up if left running.

Check large pulley connected to transmission. Spins freely in one direction, causes transmission / tub to spin in other direction.

How easily should the tub spin? When I turn the large pulley by hand, it will move, but it takes some effort. I am thinking a bearing might be bad -- is it reasonable for this to cause the belt to burn up? What is the name of the part I should buy, and are there other seals / etc necessary?

A second observation / question: During spin mode the washer motor rotates counterclockwise (looking from the top down) and "pulls" on the slack side of the belt (where the idler /tensioner sits) This seems strange to me (I would expect the "work" side of the belt to be the non-slack side). Is this correct? Is it possible I put it back together wrong?

Thanks guys

-Steve

Hi,

Ok, this is going to be a major repair and very costly. You will need a new transmission, outer tub and inner tub Assemblies.
Inner tub Assembly
Outer tub and bearing assembly
Transmission

If your stackable unit is close to 10 yrs. old or more, you may want to consider to invest the repair money into a new stackable, as other parts including the dryer bearing, etc. are wearing out as well.

Jake,

Thanks for your quick reply -- unfortunately not what I wanted to hear. I was hoping for a less costly repair.

Out of curiosity, what in particular is wrong with the washer? Did my description of the symptoms lead you to it, or are you relying on your years of experience? Is this common for this model of washer?

Thanks again.

A little bit of both, the problem with your washer and the years of experience, I have done many of these. When you start taking apart a washer after many years, parts tend to stick together, due to corrosion, etc. Unfortunately, I have had to take a hammer to many parts involved to get them free and off.

These Frigidaire made Kenmore models had alot of transmission/seal/bearing issues, that makes it when it spins to start spinning slow and burning the belt.
