We have a Frigidaire Electric Dryer Model NO. FDE546RBS1 that is overheating. I Have taken a look at the inside and the heating element appears to be in good shape it will turn off and on as the dryer runs. There are two yellow wires that connect to the heating element at a block terminal. The two yellow wires were black/burnt at the ends where they connect to the block terminal. There also appeared to be some sparking that was taking place at the block terminal where the yellow wires connect with the heating element.

Does any one know what is causing the dryer to overheat and why the yellow wires would be burnt at the location that they connect to the heating element?

I have checked the ventilation and there does not appear to be anything wrong with it. There is a good flow of air and steam coming out of the outside vent.

For now I'm just going to trim back the yellow wires to get rid of the burn't ends and reconnect them.

Hi, I read this post and did everything it says. Ran dryer without vent hose and it still overdrys, even on the lowest setting. I have to sit by and take the clothes out based on a timer now! One thing I noticed, though, is that the air rushing out the rear vent is not perfectly steady. It cycles like the blower is blowing the same all the time. So, I cleaned every bit of lint off the vanes and diddn't get better. Maybe this is not a problem. One other thing is that I replaced the front seal felts all the way around a couple months ago. Not sure, but problem could have started then. Can see why that would cause it, but when replaceing the felts, I also removed a deformed, soft plastic, shrunken material that was plastered to the blower wheel. I don't think it could have been a deformed cover since I don't believe a cover belonged there, right? The online parts diagrams don't show anything but open blower where you see the vanes and a shroud, both of which I still have installed.

By the way, my model number is fsg747ges1. Gas Frigidaire dryer.

I have seen lint clogs on these models thats just below your lint filter before it gets to your blower wheel, I would check that too.

Ok. So far, that's the same parts diagram I found online and it looks like I have all the parts just like it shows. Lint trap all the way through is clear.

Could this be a faulty switch on the front of the dryer, such as the 'dry temp' sweitch, or the 'timer' switch? I also read somewhere in the blog that a bad rear seal/bearing could cause something like this. Could this be true? Any other ideas?

Yes, but you would need to test each part and know what testing range they should be in. I would suggest getting an appliance repair company to come out since this seems to be more of a technical problem that we don't see much of.

Hi, could my problem be something as simple as a faulty high limit thermostat? It seems that the dryer 'timer' switch seems to be working fine. It's likely either the dryer 'temp' switch or a bad thermostat. I hate to get a technician in here for more than the dryer is worth....thanks in advance for any ideas. Jim

Yes, its possible.

What you can do is just order both parts, and install them and see if it fixes the problem, if not simply return both parts back within 30 days for a full refund:
