    Default frigidaire ice maker leak

I have a Frigidaire model GS23HSZLW4. This is a gallery series side by side with the best feature being filtered water and ice from the freezer door.

However, a few days ago there was a puddle of water on the floor under the freezer side. In the past, a few cubes might be left in the door down spout that would melt and cause this, however this was too much water for that.

I discoverd there was water leaking from the door end of the ice maker tray (not the back wall end where the water comes into the tray). I had enough ice and lifted the actuator arm to turn off the ice maker. A few days later I turned it on and the noticed the water flowing again and put a dish in the ice tray under the leak. This collected a couple inches of water and I turned off the ice maker again.

Questions: What is likely the problem?...perhaps a cracked ice tray? And how do I remove the ice maker to check it out?

    Thanks in advance.

    Default more info....water valve

I read the sticky post on water valves and note that we do have a clamp-on self-piercing valve on the water line.

I noticed from day one that the filtered water was somewhat slow and thought that was due to the water being filtered. Is that the case, or more likely the self-piercing water valve?

It would appear that the ice maker might be frozen up now...so perhaps that is the problem? It did leak over a period of time when on automatic and now that it has been shut off for awhile maybe the water supply has frozen up? Not leaking now...but not making ice either.

The refrigerator is 2 years old and the ice maker and filtered water have worked perfectly up until now....with consistent use every day. Would the water valve likely cause a problem this late in the game?

    Default more info

I put a 2 cup measure under the leaking end of the ice maker and I am getting about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of water about every hour... but no cubes.

So the water is flowing (slowly) but the ice maker is not making ice.

Also, regarding water pressure vs self-piercing valve etc., I notice that the water dispenser will fill a normal sized glass in 10 seconds so it is not that slow. Pretty good pressure actually.

    Ideas?

    Thanks.

Default more info ...ice maker cycling...no water

I just watched the ice maker cycle automatically.

It lifted the wire swing arm and rotated the cube fingers 180 degrees. No cubes were made/ejected.

Then it leaked some water out of the door end into the 2 cup measure (1/3 cup) but no water into the ice cube tray.

So water is getting to the water dispenser under good pressure and is leaking out of the end of the ice maker but is not getting into the ice maker tray to make ice cubes. Weird.

Default update...made one round of ice

After 4 hours it has now made one round of ice cubes. However it got stuck ejecting them at the top of the rotation. I broke them off and the ice maker returned to the ready position. No water overflowing and no more ice in the last 3 hours. Freezer is very cold (at factory setting on dial). It used to make ice every 20 - 30 minutes. Why would it now be intermittent?

Sounds like you have good water pressure, but feel inside your ice maker after it feels with water, do all the cube slots have water/ice in them?

    Thanks Jake

Most (99%) of the time the cube tray does not fill with water.

However it has also made a round of normal sized ice cubes and a round of mini ice cubes...maybe 1 round of ice cubes every 10 hours or so. The normal size batch was a full batch...so all the slots were full at that time of course. The last batch was the minis, so the slots were maybe half full.

I put a long tray under the ice maker and it has not collected any leaking water in a day. Not leaking now but not making ice either.

I just watched it cycle and no water came into the slots. I used to be able to hear the relay kick in and the water run to fill the slots. Have not heard that for a long time.

Five minutes later, it has cycled again. Still no water. Still lots of pressure from the filtered water dispenser. Checked the filters (new 2 months ago)...still clean.

Check your fill tube where it comes into your ice maker, to make sure there isn't an ice clog in it, if its clear, then you will need to do a voltage test on your water inlet valve.

I disconnected the green water line where it goes into the back of the fridge to the ice maker. It was completely empty of water. I then cycled the icemaker over a couple of hours and no water came out of that green feed line. Water still comes out of the water dispenser in the door with good pressure.

I also checked that both filters are full of water which they are (again, only 2 months old) so there is no blockage prior to the filters.

Since both water lines (ice and water) go through the same inlet water valve assembly, and since I can see the torque in the green line when I run water through the water dispenser, I assume that the problem is in the ice valve portion of the inlet water valve assembly. Unfortunately I do not have a volt meter however I will borrow one tonight to test.

Based on the above, can we assume that the valve is shot? i.e. no water coming out of the room temperature green feed line (so no ice blockage). No water is getting past the valve..except to the water dispenser.

    Thanks again in advance.
