Default Heating coil for 1964 Frigidaire double oven

The lower heating coil on the right side of my 1964 Frigidaire double oven seems to have partially melted in what was a loud spark, and now the oven will not heat beyond 250 degrees or so. The upper broiler element is fine, as is the entire left hand oven and all the burners. I think simply replacing the damaged heating coil will fix the problem, but parts for this model are no longer being made by Frigidaire. Does anyone know if there are any other options for repairing this oven? Third party replacement parts perhaps? The model number is RD-71-64.

Thank you,

-Lewis

Hi Lewis,

I can't seem to locate the model# anywhere online for the replacement lower heating coil.

You may need to remove it and take it to your local appliance parts store to see if they can match it up.

When I gave the model number to someone over the phone locally they said they had to go back to microfilm in order to look it up. They did find it, however, and they are the ones that told me it was a 1964 model. I was told that they no longer make replacement baking elements for this model.

Do you think there is a possibility that another element will fit? Is there such a thing as third party or non-OEM parts for these?

Thanks again,

-Lewis

Yes, they do make 3rd party elements to match up with yours, but like I said, the only place that has all the information on that is a major appliance parts store in your area.

The one in your area is:
Marcone Appliance Parts

Just to provide an update: Marcone had to look up the part on microfilm and said there was no replacement part available and had no further advice on where to turn. I went through the phone book and got the same response until I talked to a company called Watkins Appliance Service. Watkins said they had the part in stock and came out and replaced it the next day. The oven now works perfectly.

I had wanted to find a parts supplier to save on the installation cost, but now at least its fixed.

Thanks for the update Lewis.

Glad Watkins could fix it for you.
