Hello everyone. I am new to the site and I wish I had found this site long before this. I found out about it from a Chevy Nova site I belong to.................................anyways........ .................................We have a Frigidaire convection/bake oven. When the oven is being used in convection mode there is a strong smell comming from the circuit board. The smell is comming from the end with the transformer on it. I can not see any discoloration anywhere on the board. There is no smell in bake mode and the oven works fine in bake mode. the model number is CGEB27S7CS1. Is it possible the circuit board is going ? I am an electrician so I can troubleshoot ![]() ![]() Thanks ! |

Hi,
Yes, it sounds like your control board is starting to go out, I checked the control board for your model and it runs $209 US dollars. But its on back order, also our parts suppliers can't ship to Canada. Jeff lives in Canada and has an appliance shop there, you can ask him at his website where you could get it in Canada: http://www.applianceaid.com/ Contact him at the bottom of that page. Jake

Thanks Jake. Not shipping to Canada is no problem. I get stuff shipped to Calais Maine 04619. I live about 1.5 hrs. from the border and I am down that way quite often for work.
Is there any danger of the board catching fire ? My wife is reluctant to use the oven on convection mode. I was hoping something like a resister or transformer would blow so I could take it to an electronics shop and have them replace the burnt out part. $209 U.S. is not bad. I will check Jeff's site as well. How do I gwt to it ? Do you have a link to ordering this part state side ? Thanks again ! |

Update : I ordered and installed a "rebuilt" timer/control board from Sears $89.00). My wife tried the convection mode on the weekend and whilke it works fine there is still an electrical burning type smell comming from the same area. Any ideas ?
![]() My next step is to pull out the wall oven and check all components and wiring for discoloration, etc. Thanks |

Yes they did have new ones but they were $300. With either one it has to be installed by a Sears technician to be guarenteed, which pretty much adds an extra $100 to the price
. I am a lisenced electrician so the install is no biggie. If I find out the timer was not the problem I will return the one I bought. It would be hard to believe that the rebuilt timere would have the same emell as the old one. I am think the smell is comming from something else. I am going to pull out the wall oven and check it over. If I find anything I will post my findings. Thanks for all the help . |

Ok, Yea, I'm not sure what else would make it smell like that without looking at it for myself.

what kind of smell- heat? plastic burning? could the door gasket/hinges be the issue- poor sealing allows heat to get at the control panel and would show up as browning around edge of oven can(body), gasket gets hard and brown, hinges fail and don't close tight. how are you smelling it? is the panel open and flipped over to smell or is it installed in place and you're just sniffing the external area? is there play at the top of oven door where you can push it closed?

Hey guys I finally found the problem with the convection oven. The door switch was bad. The smell was from the door switch but it appeared to be from the board because the door switch is directly below the board
.Thnaks! |
