I have a gas range that's less than 2 years old. After a power outage my EOC went black. After a second outage two weeks later, it mysteriously blinked back on. Most of my EOC controls are functional (clock, timer, oven door lock). But when I try to turn on the oven- it starts fine, then after a few moments I get an F31 message.

I couldn't find an F31 failure code for Tappan. An F1 failure code is the electronic control. An F3 failure code is the sensor. Check the sensor first. Use an ohm meter. You should have 1100 ohms at room temperature.

Whats the model# of your range? Its located either inside the oven door, or on the very bottom frame in the front after you pull the storage drawer out.

Model No. TGF351ESC
I'll look into acquiring an ohm meter, but display definitely reads F31. |

The error code F3 is pretty much a universal error code for every brand. Tappan was owned by Maytag, and under Maytag I found an error code F3-1 which is also an error code for the sensor. I would start there by checking the sensor first.

Here's the oven sensor probe for your model:
Part#316217001 You would need to pull your range out from the wall, then take off the back access panel, then you'll see the connector for the sensor probe, just unsnap the connector and ohm the sensor. Unplug your range first before taking the back access panel off. Jake
