Default [FIXED] Frigidaire Gallery bake oven wont light

I have a Frigidaire Gallery model NGSG3PZASC that the bake oven wont ignite. Broiler and stove top burners work fine. This is the 3rd time I've had this problem. The first time I replaced the gas valve and it worked for two years. Than it developed the same problem so I replaced it again. This time it stopped working after about six months.
What happens is the igniter glows and the gas valve only partially opens. Not enough to ignite but you can smell gas. If I lightly tap anywhere along the gas system (regulator, gas valve or burner) it will light with a normal flame but wont reignite when it needs too.
I checked the igniter with an amp meter and it is drawing 2.69 amps. I see from previous threads that this is low. What I don't understand is if the igniter is bad than why does it ignite when you tap on it. Or do I have 2 problems. Thanks

Hi,

The problem is your oven igniter glow bar, I'll guarrentee that if you order it and change it your oven will work like new again.

Here's the cheapest oven igniter glow bar I found for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 5303935066

5303935066

Jeff explains it here:
You may even see the orange "glow plug" (called a hot surface igniter) glowing orange and so assume that it's OK. Not necessarily!! You have to measure the current/amp drawn by the igniter and compare it to this repair sheet before you can say it's OK or not. The gas valve has a bi-metal that open when a certain amount of current flows through it to heat it up. The igniter is wired in series with the gas valve. As the igniter gets older or weaker, it's resistance increases to the point where not enough current is flowing to the gas valve bimetal to open it up. As a result, the gas valve never opens up. BTW, a common symptom of the early stages of this problem is erratic temperature control in the oven due to delayed firing of the bake burner while cooking.

Thank you for your quick response. I'll definitely order it. It would be great to be able to cook this Thanksgiving.

Yes, Thanksgiving is coming fast, just 10 more days.

Keep us posted when you install it.

Ordered the igniter Sunday night and received it today (Tuesday). I installed it which should have been very easy but both screws broke. I removed the burner and was able to get the remainder of the screws out. Installed new screws and wired. The igniter heats up much faster and glows much brighter. Sure enough the gas valve opened fully and the oven lit. It also got to operating temperature faster than it ever has. I definately consider it fixed. Thanks for your help Jake!

Excellent Ed, good job, glad its running better than ever now.
