Question ISE 1/2 hp stopped working

Yesterday I flipped the switch on the garbage disposal and it made a few loud grinding noises and then nothing. Now when I flip the switch, nothing happens at all - no noise. I found a button on the bottom of the unit and pushed it. Then when I flipped the switch it started to grind for a few seconds but then silence again. Nothing I do forces it to grind and now the water in that sink is barely going down. How do I get it going again?

Hi,

Sounds like something may be stuck in your garbage disposal grinder, Unplug your disposal then put your hand down in it and feel for something that may be clogging it, becareful if broken glass may be in it.

Jake

reset button underneath, UNPLUG unit, get broom handle or similar wooden stick, insert into disposal, lean stick to one side and push back and forth until impellers/disposal spins. if it's not seized up this should get it loose- check for big debris pieces in disposal before plugging in and testing
