Default Disposal Use Backs-up Water in Double Sink

For the past few weeks my wife and I have had two recurring problems with our double kitchen sink. The first, and most bothersome, is that the disposal side of the sink seems to fill with water until the disposal in run, which in turn sends dirty water up the drain on the other side of the sink. Furthermore, we now have a "garbage" smell coming from the non-disposal side of the sink, which I'm guessing is related to our first issue.

Do we have a disposal issue? Or could it be related to a clog further down the drain (past the disposal). I think I've read not to use chemical drain cleaning products in the disposal, but would that be a good first option to try?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi,

Those are good questions, I don't really know if its a disposal problem or not, but It sounds like drain issues.

Terry Love has a good forum all about plumbing/drains here that you can try to search for the answer or register and ask:
