    Default Jammed Insinkerator 555SS

    Model Number: 04071626352
    Brand: -major brand-
    Age: 6-10 years

    Hi:
I have an Insinkerator and I jammed it up by putting in leftover cooked chicken (large pieces). Later (everything appeared to be ok), I put in 4 large lettuce leaves. The garbage disposal was backing up and making a "sludge" which was incredible. It looks like the chicken became totally pulverized (like soft putty) and there were specks of green in it (lettuce). The little parts that grind up the food seem to be ok when I reach down (in that gunk) and the other side (double sink) is fine. We have had no problems until now, and I know that it is because of how I jammed it. Is there anything we can do? Is there a reset button on this particular model? There is a little "wrench?" that fits into a slot at the bottom, and my husband can turn that but nothing helps.
I can visualize that the pipe is covered with this sludge material.
    Thanks for your help, suggestions.

Ok Phyl, most garbage disposals do have a little reset button on the bottom next to that little wrench, get a flashlight and try to locate it and push the button in and see if that resets it.

Unfortunately, the little red button didn't re-set. I used that special wrench and it turns freely. Then I tried baking soda and vinegar but that doesn't work either. I am beginning to think that it is not the disposal but the drain pipe. Is it worth having a repair man look at it, or should I just get a new Insinkerator. Thanks, Jake.

It should come on then, if there is power to it. I'd just buy a new garbage disposal then.
