Default GE Dryer humming

Hello all,
I have a problem with my GE gas dryer of about 7years old. When the dial is turned to start all you hear is a humming sound coming from inside the casing. I have looked at other forums and have taken the dryer apart. I have the drum, belt, and case all over my laundry room. I have gone through and cleaned all of the dust and lint I could get and still have the same problem. I haven't put everything back together and tried starting it to get the same humming and no movement on the pulley and belt.
Does this sound like a bad motor and if so is it difficult to replace having never opened a dryer before? Also is the repair cost worth it? I havent heard a lot of good things online regarding older GE dryers. Will I end up with the same problem 3 years from now if I replace it? If I have someone come to fix the problem am I better off buying a new dryer for the cost?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

Whats the model# of your dryer? its located either inside the door or on the top console.

Sounds like your motor is bad, if you use your dryer daily/many times a day, after 7 years its better to invest the repair money into a new dryer, as other parts are wearing as well.

Default GE Dryer Problem

Jake,
The model number is DPSR473GW1WW.
If it is the motor you are probably right with purchasing a new one instead of fixing this one. I just have to convince my wife of that, ha ha. It gets used now that we have kids probably on average of at least one or two loads a day.
Thanks,
Scott

Default GE gas dryer problem

Well I found almost the identical dryer (newer model) at Home Depot on sale. I think with a current sale and a 10% discount card I have I can get it for just under $350. I think it will probably be worth the extra $200 to get a new one instead of trying to change out the motor.
Thanks for the help,
Scott
