Default Monogram Range element

I recently purchased a duel fuel monogram range with gas top and electric oven and have a problem knowing if it's working properly. There are two elements on the bottom of the oven, one which goes around the outide perimeter and one which goes throught the middle. When I turn the oven on to bake or convection to pre heat, the outside element glows orange but the inside element does not change in color at all. I asked the GE repair man about it while he was there on an unrelated issue and he said the element was not supposed to light up and there was no problem. I found this a little hard to beleive so when I called the GE Answer Center they said it should lite and glow in order to get the oven up to temp which makes sense to me. To make a long story short I'm getting two opposing answers from the same company. Who should I beleive??? If anyone has a similar oven or knows the correct answer to this I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks for your time, Paul

Yes, it's possible it only uses the other element for convection bake. If you give me your model number I'll try to find a wire diagram.

Rick, thanks. model # is ZDP30L4H5ss

I tried it on bake as well as convection and have never seen the element glow or change color. I even touched it with a paper towel and nothing. I appreciate your help.

I couldn't find a wiring diagram for that model so I asked one of the service techs here and he said it's only used for pre-heat. See if it comes on when you start using pre-heat.

Lightbulb Glow or No

It has never come on. Or at least I can say for shure it never changes color. It is always black whereas the outside one glows orange. I thought I should see it glow when the oven is preheating but only the outside element glows orange. Should the inside element glow or does it heat up without changing color? Thanks

If it only gets 110VAC it won't turn red. That may be the case in pre heat or convection bake. Sorry I'm not much help. Maybe Jake knows.

Smile Thanks Rick

I appreciate you're looking into this. I'm new to the board so am not sure exactly how this works but how can I get my question to Jake? Can you forward him the question or should I repost a new thread? Thanks again for your help, Paul

Hi,

Unfortunately, I really don't know either, I've never worked on one of these before.

If you recently purchased it, you have a 1 yr. warranty on it, contact GE to have a tech. come out.

Jake
