Default GE Potscrubber - seal design question

I have a 10-year old GE Potscrubber and have a question about how the seals are supposed to work. I currently have a problem where I get leaking during the wash cycle and I can deduce that the suds are pushing up and over the lip of interior tray (bottom of washer) and the dripping onto the floor.

When I pull the inside panel off of the door, I see that the gasket runs nicely all around the top and sides, but it does not meet up at the bottom. In fact, there's about a 3-4 inch segment with no gasket - is this normal?

So, I started thinking that we must just be using too much soap which is causing excess sudsing which is coming through between the bottom tray and this gap in the gasket. But I don't think we're using any more soap than previously.

I can imagine some shrinkage of the gasket over the years, but this would be ridiculous....

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Up here in Oregon, the water is very soft, i see this happen alot. The softer the water, the more chance of suds.

Thats the odd part, my customers will say they have been using the same amount for years, and everything was fine. I don't know why all of a sudden it starts doing it. But after they use less, it works fine.

I explain to my customers to use half of what your using in detergent.

The door gasket gaps at the bottom are normal.

Jake

Not all have/had this....not all need it....but we have been adding this little gasket in the gap on the GE d/w's and it has helped with some/many problems with water comming out of the "normal" gap in the door gasket.

This just pushes into place....

Gasket insert

DO use less soap as Jake suggested.

Default Thanks for the responses

Guys,
Thanks for the responses. We'll be trying less detergent. I'm weighing the option of buying the 4" insert gasket (the shipping's almost more than the item). I think we'll try the detergent change first.

Thanks,
Ken
