Default WCSE4230A0WW won't complete agitate cycle

I've got a GE WCSE4230A0WW top load washer from 2002. The washer currently will start the wash cycle (in cotton and permanent press mode), but several minutes in, the motor will start clicking and cycle on/off (at least that is the appearance). It does this behavior whether the wash speed is set to normal or gentle. If I run the quick rinse cycle, it will go through (most of the time) and finish normally. Does this sound like a clutch problem or some electronic controller problem?

Thanks for any assistance

I forgot to mention that I ran through the field code test for the washer and it showed the same clicking behavior when selecting the slow agitation test. The fast agitation test seemed to work fine as did the drain and spin tests.

Hi,

Here's the parts diagram for your model:
WCSE4230A0WW
Diagram#2 Part location#630 is your motor/clutch assembly, thats likely the problem, I've replaced many of these for the same issue.

If you purchase parts from our links here and you install them and it doesn't fix the problem, you have a 30 day full refund.

Jake
