Default GE dryer... short

I have a GE Frontloader: DBXR453EA1WW MODEL #, electric

It was working fine, but now is tripping the breaker every time it is plugged in. A week or so the breaker was tripped, I reset it, and it worked fine, but now if I reset the breaker and then plug it back in it sparks/arcs and trips the breaker again. I read someone else's post about a dime that got through the filtering system and caused a short... any thoughts as to where I should look first, or is a call to for repair the safer bet?

Somewhere on your dryer it's going to be obvious where the short is. Start by removing the cover over the power cord. Then look in the console area. Remove the top and look around the heating element in the back.

Default thanks for the quick post...

Thanks. I did pull the plate over the power cord and there is a black spot on the wire attached to the plate. I think at this point I'm going to call a friend who knows a bit more than me when it comes to 220 power, which I don't care to mess with too much.
Any other thoughts are deeply appreciated.
