Default GE washer transmission question

GE washing machine M# wvsr1060a1ww. I removed the agitator coupling to find out where a water leak was coming from. I then noticed that the splined shaft on the transmission moved back and forth, which to me indicates a bearing problem. Am I correct or is that movement OK?

Hi,

Here's the parts diagram for your model:

Diagram#4 Part location#310 is the agitator coupling, is that what your referring to?

Your right the shaft should not move side to side sounds like your going to have to replace the trans if you want to fix this machine..I serviced GE washers for a federal prison in my area and we replaced dozens of these transmissions . They arre not too expensive ,and not too hard to replace but if you do order the nut that holds the basket in ,its white metal and is hard to get out better to cut it with a chisel and replace it new. good luck...
