Default GE wall oven temperature overrun/runaway

Hello,

I have a double wall oven, upper unit electronically controlled, lower unit "knob" controlled.

When I turn upper unit to Bake, process starts normally, with temperature reaching set point and heating stopping normally. As I open the oven door while working on the meal, oven starts again to regain temperature as it should. This happens a few times.

At some point, after a few minutes of normal operation, however, things go crazy: the Broil element turns itself on, and never lets go. A couple of times the F2 alarm alerted me of the temperature overrun that had just happened. Another time I caught the problem before it became too hot. When this happens, the only way to return the oven to normal operation is to turn it off and let it cool down. In summary, I've been using the lower oven since then, which is knob-controlled and still works.

So this is not a problem of the temperature sensor, I don't think, because here the temperature does in fact run away due to the Broil element staying on without end. My guess is the control/clock is bad, and when temperature is exceeded the fault may trigger.

A year ago or so, I replaced the touchpad that was giving me the F7, and that problem went away.

If I have to replace the clock/control, I guess the safe route is to have a technician do the work? Is it not possible to figure out the connections in the replacement clock/control?

Thank you!

Sounds like you might be right. The control is not difficult to change, just be sure to cut the power. I need your entire model number to confirm the control has failed.

Hi,

thank you for the reply. The model number is JRP24BW2BB.

Just curious, how does knowing the model number help you determine whether the control has failed?

Best regards,

Default For Redbeardnmt

Hi,

First of all, thank you very much for your reply to my first email, where you asked for my oven's model number --to confirm the control had failed.

From your reply, I got the impression that there would be one further communication from you once I sent you the oven's model number, but there hasn't been any --yet.

So I'm a little confused... Did you intend for me to wait for a signal from you about the appropriateness of replacing the clock/control?

Thanks a lot again.

Sorry enrique,
I looked up the wiring diagram to see if there could be anything else causing the problem. It looks like the control is is the problem. There are too many brands and too many models for me to remember all of them without looking them up.

There's nothing to be sorry about. To me, this is an amazing help. Thank you very much.

A general question: Once before I ordered a part from Repairclinic directly from their website. Now I think somebody here said that, if you order by clicking Repairclinic's link in this blog something is different? Is it that they give you a better return policy? something else?

Thanks a lot again,

Yes, if you click through our banner or any repairclinic link and order it, you will get a 30 full refund if you install the part and it doesn't fix it.

I just bought my first house and it was a foreclosure so everything was in "as is" condition. I am having the exact same problem that you did, Enrique. Being a total novice and in the poor house after buying a house I wanted to try an fix this myself. So how do I get the clock face off to look at the part and replace it? (Have I mentioned I am a total novice?)

Hi,

Here's the electronic clock control board assembly for this model:
Manufacturer part number WB27T10264 is RepairClinic item number 844426
WB27T10264

*Wiring could differ from original, will possibly need to be installed by an appliance repairperson.
Changing the wiring around can be a nightmare if your never done it before. There are instructions that come with it.

If you don't secede you can return the part within 30 days for a full refund.

#16 here is the electronic clock control board assembly:

Looks like there are 2 screws#170 on the top console, you may need to pull your wall oven out abit to get access to them.

You may also have screws under the console as well.

Remember to turn your house breaker to the oven off first!
