Default GE GJXRP080B0WW Top Loader, keeps adding water

MY GE top loading washing machines does the following....

- Water level fills up and stops ok
- After a pause, it begins agitate cycle ok BUT it wants to add more water at this point when the machine is already full so it would overflow. If I turn off the water supply, it will continue to agitate.
- After agitate cycle is done, it drains old water ok.
- After old water is drained it goes into its spin cycle ok.
- Halfway through spin cycle, it wants to add water... not ok. I have to tutn water supply off again.
- I manually advanced spin cycle a bit to get that bit of water to drain away which it did.
- It continues to spin, and spin and spin, even after getting to the very end of the wash cycle. It still spins. I have to open the lid to get it to stop.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The timer, I assume that is the big switch that I just took out. The one that you set the wash cycle to and then pull the rotary dial out to start the machine?

I took it out with the intent on seeing how I could get a new one.
