GE Profile water dispenser line leaking
I have a GE Profile side-by-side, model number TPX24BR (or something similar - the sticker inside the door lists three other two-letter endings as well).
A couple of months ago, the water dispenser stopped dispensing water. There were the usual valve operation and the water running sounds, but no water. It didn't take too long to discover that the water was going on to the floor. The plastic water line from the valve had broken off, just below the fitting on the valve.
I cut off the end of the water line and put it back together. All seemed fine. Today the symptoms started to re-appear. (The first clue is a slight delay between the valve operation and water appearing.)
Nothing is obviously wrong, but I can't make the water stop leaking from that same fitting. Is there something I need to know about getting this back together? There's a small insert that sticks into the end of the water line, which seems to be crumbling inside the water line, but the outer part seems fine. Can I replace that? Does it do anything important?
Thanks for any advice!

Some model# helps. http://www.applianceaid.com/model.html
If the water line is cracking, replace it as it will continue to crack and leak.

Thanks for the part reference. That's it. What's it for?
If the water line is cracking, replace it as it will continue to crack and leak.
I trust you have the replacement tubing as well? Are there any special challenges to replacing it? Can I do it myself?
Thanks!

Prevents the line from being crushed when the connector is attached.

*I* don't have/sell anything...parts depot should have it
Proper/full model# would be needed.
Are there any special challenges to replacing it?
Not normally.
Unknown to us/me....probably!

Ge Profile Water Leak In Ice And Water Line
Thanks for the great site.
I have a GE Profile Model TFX30PPBABB and four months ago had a water leak where the water dispenser line left the inlet valve. The water line had deteriorated right at the nut so I cut the line and reattached it and thought all was good.
Now 4 months later the ice maker supply line fails. The plastic tubing broke in half 3 inches from the inlet valve. I'm thinking that the heat from the compressor caused both lines to fail. The unit is about 8 years old.
From reading these posts I know I need to replace the repaired water dispenser line(it will fail again) and replace the broken supply line to the ice maker. How difficult is this repair for a reasonably handy person?
Do I need any parts other than the two pieces of tubing? Do you know if GE is using a more heat resistant tubing or is 8 years a pretty good useful life for this tubing?
Are the water lines up to the water filter likely to fail also and should I replace them?
Thank you for the advice.
