Default Fresh Food Frig Door Pops Open After Being Closed

We need your help!

Recently our HotPoint Model No. CSX20EGB refrigerator fresh food door pops open after we close it. We think it's closed, only to come back later and find it is open!

Has anyone had this problem?

We're thinking it may be the door gasket or perhaps a hinge malfunction, but don't know for sure what it is.

Please let us know if anyone has suggestions about what other things we should check before going to the expense of buying a $60 door gasket (and we don't know how difficult it will be to install the gasket ourselves once we receive the part).

We will appreciate your help!

I know this may sound dumb, but make sure there is nothing on the inside pushing the door open.

I once had to drive 50 miles one way because someone could not get there frig door to close. I got there and the bottom crisper shelf had been knocked out of place and was to far forward keeping the door from getting closed good.

Something to check...

Thanks, I checked it out and there's nothing keeping it from closing.

However, I did notice the door closing cam (I think that's the correct name: it's the black, small oval-shaped two-holed plastic piece at the bottom of the door--that piece looks like it is broken--a small piece is sticking out.)

Would you know if this item is something that's difficult to install? I guess lifting up the door and removing the door from it's hinge is the only way to install that piece?

Very easy to change on the refrigerator door.

You can remove the top hing and lift the door off the bottom hing to replace it or if your really good or have help you can hold the door in place and just remove the bottom hing.

Most of the time I just remove the bottom hing and replace the stopper, but it can be tricky at times. If you have help it's nice to have someone hold the door in place for you when you do it that way.
