Hi,
We came home about 2 weeks ago to water on the floor and the washer would not spin. Machine is still under warranty - so when the repairman finally got here 10 days later, the machine worked perfectly. He ran it through several cycles with clothing in it and the front panel off, lying on the floor to observe. He couldn't find anything wrong with it.

I washed about 4 loads yesterday and the last one did not spin out. The machine goes thru the whole cycle. I let the machine sit overnight with clothes in it and this morning I ran the drain/spin cycle and the machine worked fine. And I washed another load and the machine ran fine.

The machine will be 5 years old in April when the warranty runs out. Since this problem is sporadic, I don't think I can get a repairman here and have it malfunction at the same time.

Any suggestions as to the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kay

Hi Kay,

Intermittent problems are the hardest to pinpoint.

When you ran the 4th load and it wouldn't spin, did you hear an sound from it at all when it was trying to drain/spin? Motor humming? or dead silent?

No, there was not any noise. The machine was quiet and appeared to have gone through the whole cycle other than the final spin. I did try the drain/spin cycle several times; but the machine seemed to be only pumping. The clothes were soggy but there was not a bunch of water; so I think the pump is working correctly. I decided to leave the machine and give it a try in the morning and as I said in the first post, the drain/spin cycle worked fine. I had unplugged the machine overnight thinking that if there are some computerized circuit boards or something similar, that the machine would reset. I don't know if this makes sense or not.

I suppose we'll have to wait until the machine consistently misses on the spin cycle and hope that the warranty hasn't run out.

Thanks, Kay

Ok,

I'll check if GE Jim has seen this happen before as well. Could be a number of things causing it, its very hard to diagnose it when its intermittent, other than just replacing parts at random.

Hi..My only guess on this is that maybe the motor is getting hot and cutting out..Then it cools down and will run again until it gets hot and stops....Jim..

The repairman kind of suggested this also; but he couldn't be sure. It does seem to make some sense as the machine does run OK after it has set for some time.

Thanks, Kay

I have a new intermittant problem: the fill level sometimes fills to the top of the drum even when set to large rather than super and today it didn't fill to the large level. I think the overfill is the reason I have had water on the floor a couple of times. Again this is a sporadic problem. The machine still doesn't spin out occasionally unless I let it sit overnight; but this is intermittant also. I think my warranty period has expired; so I am contemplating on whether I should get a new machine since the problems are not consistent enough to have a repairman out.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Kay

Sounds like the water level pressure switch may be going bad as well.

So with it possibly needing a new motor and a pressure switch, your looking at about $200 in parts.
