Default Turntable motor replacement hood microwave

I have a General Electric JVM1842WF001 that the turntable stopped completely a little while back. After my bolstered success in easily repairing my Whirlpool dishwasher, I thought I would tackle this one.

I removed the bottom cover and and see the motor. It looks rather simple to replace. However, everywhere I look on the web says to make sure the capacitor is discharged before doing any work. How do I ensure this without opening up the rest of the microwave? Do I need to be concerned with this even though I am accessing one easily accessible motor, or is there another way to ensure the same safety?

You only need to discharge the capacitor if you are accessing the high voltage section of the microwave. If you are just replacing the turntable motor, don't worry about it you are safe. Use a multimeter to check for voltage when you run a cycle at the motor to ensure the motor is the actual problem. If it is, replace the turntable motor and then put it back together. If there is no voltage, it is time to look inward for the problem.

Just to make sure I understand - power up the microwave and attach a multimeter at the connector (that connects to the motor) and make sure there is juice to the motor?

That is correct. Start a cycle with something in the oven cavity and see if you have voltage present.

Good - just making sure I understood. I tested that and there is current to the motor...motor just doesn't work. Which is good news for me, since it looks like an easy fix.

Thanks for your help!
