Default [FIXED] GE Model JGBP24BEW1WH gas range

Oven will not turn on. Broiler does turn on. I read several of the threads on similar model nubers and have an idea of what could be wrong and need confirmation that I measured correctly. Other threads suggested that I measure the voltage to the ignitor. There are two wires, one plugs into what I'll call the gas module under the over(in the back behind the kick panel) and the other wire has what i'll call a barrel connector. I unplugged both wires, and measured each to ground, the barrel connector had 120vac and the spade lug on the gas module had just residual voltage, arount 6 or 7 vac.

Did I measure correctly, and if so, can I assume then that my ignitor needs to be replaced?

Thank you in advance....this forum helped me in the past to fix my freezer, and it looks like it's gonna do the same for my stove too.

Hi,

The 2 wires that come out of your oven igniter glow bar and connect to your range, check for 120 volts there. Not to ground. If you don't have a quick disconnect from your oven igniter glow bar wires, I cut the wires(unplug your range first) then put the volt meter probes on the 2 wires that come from the range side and plug in your range and put it on bake, if you get 120 volts, then its the oven igniter glow bar thats bad.

Here's the cheapest oven/broil igniter glow bar I found for your model you can order(comes with new wire nuts to reconnect the new one):
Manufacturer's Number: WB2X9154

OK, will do. On my installation, that would be between the "barrel" connector and the spade lug on the gas module. Quick and easy to get to.

I just checked it, and I do have 120vac, so I guess I need a new ignitor.

One last thing Jake: After repairing my oven, the wife wanted me to look at our son in laws because it doesn't work either. I thought his problem was different because his broiler and oven both were not working. So, to please the wife, I went and looked. Though his oven is a kenmore and mine was GE, other than his electronic timer/control panel, the ovens are identicle right down to every screw! And his broiler wasn't working cause it had no ignitor! Based on your advice, I disconnected the ignitor and measured voltage, had the 120vac. Removed the ignitor and sure enough, someone had taken this one from the broiler and spliced it into the conectors for the oven.

Before you helped me I didn't know what to look for. So your help to me actually fixed two ovens.

Thanks again!

Scott
