Dryer hums problem
Hi: I know this comes up a lot, but haven't found the answer on your blog yet. All of a sudden, when I turn the dryer on, I just get a mechanical humming noise. Also, it seemed to me, though I'm not sure, that the drum was kind of stiff to rotate. I've taken out the drum. If I turn the blower, the motor seems to turn fine - I mean the axle that drives the belt rotates. But if I leave it disassembled, plug it in and try to turn it on, I get the same hum and the axle doesn't turn. It looks as though, when I flip the switch, the axle kind of moves out a tiny bit, away from the body of the motor. But it doesn't turn. The model number is DBXR453GA0WW.
I think there were a bunch of towels in it when it broke. I guess we use it close to every day, but not every day.
Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

Hi,
If your blower wheel spins free, then the problem is your motor is bad.
Here's the motor for your model you can order:
Manufacturer part number WE17M22 is RepairClinic item number 275427

Is there any way to test it to confirm that it's bad before I spring for a new one? also, how difficult is it for someone who is relatively handy to install the new motor?
Thanks. Simon

Yes, Jeff has a good motor page here:

If you've fixed other things around your house, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Jake: I took a look at the motor page, which has some good stuff. But I'm not clear about which wire is which. The only wire that appears to have any numbers on it is yellow, and it says "1 - 4". Not very helpful!
Do you know how I can figure out which is terminal number 4 and which is terminal number 5 so I can test the motor? Thanks for your help.

Now I've got a new problem - there is no terminal next to the number 4. I wanted to test the motor by connecting a test cord to 4 and 5, but there isn't anything connect to 4 at the moment, and no obvious means of connecting something... Any ideas? Thanks.

Thats odd, not sure why there isn't a terminal at #4, I can't locate the wiring diagram on this model, so I'm not sure what to tell you.
Have you checked for a wiring diagram in your console?
