Default GE Triton Poor Washability?

I need help!!! I am about to kill my dishwasher. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of. I really can't afford a service call, nor can I afford a new dishwasher right now.

The dishwasher is at most 5 years old (I think. It was in the home when I purchased it in 2007. House built in 2004.) We have semi-hard water - don't have a water softner.

The dishes, glasses, silverware come out with a white haze on them. Glasses and coffee cups do not get clean. At times, it appears if the powder has baked on the plates, glasses, etc.

I used to use the Cascade gel packs, and the dishes weren't getting clean. I have a feeling the Jet Dry dispenser on the door could be broken. When I try to screw it in, it doesn't feel like there is a tight fit. And I rarely have to replace the fluid.

I tried switching the Electrasol powder with the hanging Jet Dry basket. No change. I've used Glass Magic. It semi works if I pour close to the whole box in.

I've also tried baking soda, borax and vinegar. No difference.

I've check to make sure there isn't debris clogging the bottom, or the rotating arms. The center spray tube does in fact come up out of the bottom. Majority of the time it is still up when the cycle is done.

Is there something else I should be doing? Something I should try to replace? Does this type have problems? I'm am seriously considering never purchasing another GE! I need some help!!!

Thanks!

Hi,

Whats the model# of your dishwasher? Its located inside the door on the left or right side tub frame.

I always advised customers to use this, its made by GE:
Citric acid- mineral deposit remover

The model number is GSD5500G00WW.

I have tried the dishwasher cleaners you can buy at the grocery store. It doesn't seem to make much of a difference. (The borax has made the inside of the dishwasher very white though!)

Is the stuff by GE any different?

Would changing the intake hose/inlet make a difference? How can I be sure it is getting enough water?

No.

After it fills with water open the door and look to see how high the water level is in the tub, should come just below the heating element.

I opened the door during the wash cycle, there was about 1/2" - 3/4" of water. Should there be more?

My husband also cleaned out the float last night. He said there was a good amount of lime build up.

(Not sure if this makes a different or not)

Yes, that sounds too low, you may need a new water inlet valve.

Here’s the water valve inlet for this model:
Manufacturer’s Number: WD15X10003

For the lime issue, this is a good product to get:
DishwasherMagic
DishwasherMagic: Specifically designed to clean dishwashers of lime scale, iron and soap scum buildup, safely and effectively.

We replaced the water inlet valve and noticed minimal difference.

Glasses are still cloudy, and plate still have a cloudy sheen on them. Would it take multiple washes to notice a difference?

We usually run it on normal - should we use something else? Can the programs get 'wore out'?

What kind of detergent is best? Should I add baking soda? (I've read that is a water softner.)

Should we replace the pump?

What does it mean when it reads 'sensing'?

THANK YOU!!!!

Here is a couple more good products to help clean your dishwasher.

Removes built-up soap scum and discoloration due to iron and other water impurities. Also works great in washing machines, porcelain sinks and porcelain tubs.
Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner and Deodorizer

For use with automatic dishwasher detergents. Prevents mineral build-up and removes cloudy film from glassware.
Glass Magic Performance Booster

Make sure your water is hot going into your dishwasher, should be 120-130 degrees.

If still getting washability issues, then yes, it sounds like you'd more than likely need a new pump/motor assembly.

Here’s the motor/pump assembly for this model:
Manufacturer’s Number: WD26X10013
