Default Is my inboard Outer Drum Shot?

Hi there,

Well, many thanks to John N, Jake and the Board for helping me diagnose the "spider" issue with my GE WCXH208 = WSXH208 = Frigidaire FWT449.

It looks like the inner drum scored the inboard outer drum: please see pictures.

Is this now shot? or can I scrape away the rough parts around the inside of the lip and use?

Any advice is greatly welcome.

Many thanks,

Matt

PS I don't seem to have posted pics as neatly as other; please forgive my noobness.

I would say you can try to scape away the rough spots and try it, if it continues to scrap, you may need a new drum.

Did you replace the rear outer tub bearing and just repair the spider? or replace the spider?

Also please post the complete model#.

Hi Jake,

Full model number: WCXH208V0WW (Canadian version of WSXH208)

I have a new inner drum and a new outer rear tub that came with bearings.

The inner drum/spider was cracked in three spots, and I thought I'd replace the outer tub while I had it all out (could have just done bearings I suppose), but now it's out and I see the damage done by the broken inner drum I'm glad I have the outer tub.

I'm hoping the inner tub is ok if I scrape away the rough bits.

Would you like more pictures of anything else?

Thanks Jake,

Matt

Quick update:

I've scrapped away the damage with a sharp chisel. Reassembled the new parts and the inboard tub half.

Tomorrow the reassembly and the gasket then a test run.

Well,

Followed the remarkable cookbook-like instructions in the "rearbearing6.pdf" document and all went back together without a hitch.

The first load did produce a bang bang at the fast spin cycle, which disheartened me terribly. However successive loads since then have been smooth and wonderful. (So I don't know what that first load was all about?)

It all went so well, even the hateful detergent spring was painless, gasket reglued wonderfully. It was labourious no question, but putting bits in plastic bags and labeling as you go works.

Once you see it all apart it's quite a straightforward design really. However that spider should really be stainless not aluminum!

Thanks for all the help,

Matt

Don't know what the bang bang was on the first load, but sounds like you got it, good job.
