GE oven turns on by itself also!
As in the post by GeorgeR, I too have a GE oven that has been displaying the F7 code off and on for a year. I tried the fixes as posted on other websites using the paper insert along the control ribbon. Worked for a while and then one day the broiler came on low by itself. I have tried using electrical tape where the ribbon goes through the slot and cleaning all the contacts. Lasted for about 5 months then I got the F7 code, but to my surprise also found the oven was on without us knowing it. I turned the oven off at the breaker and the following day, turned it back on. Within 4 minutes the broiler came on HI without us touching it. When I hit the clear pad, 1 minute later the F7 code came back on. Now I don't know what to replace, the front control panel or the circuit board in the back. Any suggestions?

My oven displays the F7 error. Once cleared the touch keys do not work and it has to be turned off at the breaker to work again (which doesn't always work). It also turns off in the middle of cooking something and it can be reset on occasion. Would this be the front key pad or a clock control pad problem?

Here is a test to find out whether its your control panel or control board:
Determine if problem is with the Key Panel or Control by:
1. Pushing CLEAR/OFF pad.
2. Disconnecting Ribbon Cable from control and waiting at least 32 seconds to see if Code recurs
If code recurs, problem is in the control. Replace control.
If code does not recur, problem is with the Key Panel.

I agree with everything you say here however I have had some issues with the waiting 32 seconds part. Now granted this is what every service manual I have ever read has said but it is one thing that has gotten me in trouble a few times so I have grown to disagree. What I do is I disconnect the ribbon and wait until the next day, and then I call the customer to see if the code had returned. Since I have started doing it this way my diagnostic percentage on this problem has been 100%. Before (when I was only waiting 32 seconds) it was more like 50/50. There has been serveral times that the code came back hours after I was gone with the ribbon discnnected, which in my book proves the 32 seconds part wrong and in these cases I saved myself from changing the wrong part.
I hate to disagree with a service manual and I don’t claim to be smarter than the guy that wrote it but I believe when the engineers wrote this they were thinking that you would have to only wait 32 seconds in a perfect world but in the real world we know that electronics don't play by the rules especially when they are acting up.
Just a little tip I though I would share that in my experience have been very valuable.

I thought maybe it could be humidity but it can happen at 60% and at 95%.
