Default [FIXED] GE Profile - PDW7300J03WW not starting

Hello! Thank you to the site owner(s) and/or techs who provide this invaluable service, it is much appreciated. We are currently experiencing difficulties with our GE Profile dishwasher (which has been running great for the last 4 1/2 years), Model PDW7300J03WW, Serial TG869683B and have several questions. From what I can gather, we are right up against the 5 year limited warranty on the control module based on the manufacture date (the unit came already installed in a new construction house).

First problem: Sometimes (most of the time), when the dishwasher's start button is pressed, the machine fills with water, the detergent door opens, then nothing happens. If we hit the reset button, then it drains normally and stops. This is pretty much the same as another post (GE Profile not spraying dishes), but I can't remember if it is totally quiet or it hums a little. I'll try it again when I get home from work. If we let it run a little while waiting for the cycle to start, there will be a strong electrical-type burning smell.

Second problem: When it does start washing normally, sometimes it gets louder. It doesn't sound abnormal (like something rubbing), it's just louder, if that makes any sense. Maybe it's something vibrating that didn't before?

One more detail about the first problem... in FL we have many occurrences of temporary power loss (less than 2 seconds each time), could this have an adverse effect on the unit, and would it contribute to a specific component failure?

My initial thoughts are to do the following, in order:

- Replace heating element. Maybe the unit is waiting for the water to heat up to the correct temperature before starting?

- Replace control module. The cost would be the same for me (buying the module and installing it myself, or having GE replace it under warranty but me paying $75 house call).

Please let me know if any additional info or details are necessary, and if the proposed order of troubleshooting/repair is a good idea based on the symptoms.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes, its likely the wash pump.

Here's the wash pump assembly for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: WD26X10015

WD26X10015

Possibly, but not likely.

Thanks for your quick reply, Jake. I have gotten around to removing the wash pump and noticed a few things that I'd like to ask some questions about.

- Are items 310, 428, 430 all included with part WD26X10015? From the image, it looks like this is true but I just wanted to double check. They all seem pretty inseparable. I don't want to buy the pump assembly just to find out a week later that I also need the impeller kit.

- Inspecting the wash pump itself, there is a fair amount of gunk (it looks like mostly hair) wrapped around the impeller axle. What are the chances the motor/pump would still work if I cleaned all of that up and re-installed it?

- The inlet sump (505) on our dishwasher has some type of screen that seems to be mostly clogged with various gunk (interestingly, the screen isn't listed in the parts diagram). Are there other areas (filters) that I should be checking for gunk to clean out? From looking at the parts diagram, I would assume 451 (fine filter) and 502 (coarse filter).

Thanks again for everything.

Yes, thats completely possible, if after you clean out all the junk and stuff you can certainly see if that fixes the issue.

This is were I can't remember to well of how to disassemble it without being there with you, its been a few years since I've taken this model apart and don't want to stir you wrong.

And I as far as I know there isn't an online repair manual I could link you to either.

Yes 451 is the fine filter and 502 is the Course Filter. I know some spray arms unscrew or pop-up, some have clips as well holding them in, then you can access the filters.

Here's the parts diagram:

Update: After cleaning out the hair and junk around the impeller, checking the pump motor a little more closely, I found that it had completely frozen up (it would not turn at all). It took quite a bit of force to get it moving again, but it doesn't look like it has any physical damage. I reinstalled the pump then moved on to cleaning out the filters.

I found the filter I was talking about in my earlier post, it is 508 in the body parts diagram and drops into 505. It took a few minutes before we figured out there are interior clips on each side to get it out. I'm sure you have probably seen worse, but I've attached a picture of the junk in the filter for laughs. I guess this was starving the pump, causing it to get louder from time to time.

Anyway, it's all put back together except for the rails and top rack, then I'll give it a shot. Thanks again for everything!
