Default [FIXED] Freezer Warm on Top, Cold On Bottom

I have a PSC23PSSA purchased in 2005. The freezer is warmer near the top where the icemaker is. The ice will get soft and melt and then refreeze and start working normally like nothing ever happened. This has gotten more frequent and is now to the point that the ice maker is just dripping and not making ice. Stuff in the freezer just below the ice tray seem to be frozen solid. What should a poor boy do?

Yes, it sounds like the motherboard thats bad.

Here's the motherboard for your model you can order:
Manufacturer part number WR49X10152 is RepairClinic item number 1266021
WR49X10152

Its in the back of your refrigerator, pull your refrigerator out from the wall, then take off the motherboard cover#803 here, then your motherboard is #801, Unplug your refrigerator first:

Is there a way to trouble-shoot this first before I buy a motherboard? I just want to make sure that I don't go and buy a motherboard, install it, and then nothing happens.

No, Unfortunately there's no way to troubleshoot the motherboard, you can physically look at it to see if you find any burned/brown spots on it, but still can be bad even if you don't see that.

If you do a forum search for the word "motherboard" you will see more than 100 members thats had this issue and the new motherboard fixed it.

We have a special program here, all parts you order from our links we post are returnable within 30 days for a FULL refund if they don't fix the problem.

Hi Jake,
I came by the place today on Michigan Ave and picked up the part. I came home and pulled the fridge out. There is a sticker on the rear that says to use part number wr55x10156. I am assuming that this means that I need to come by the shop again. Please confirm that this is the case. Thanks.

That board will work, they changed the part#:
The manufacturer has replaced part number wr55x10156 with this item, part number WR49X10152

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Jake. If you don't hear from me, all is well. If I show up in Canton looking for answers then it will mean bad news. Thanks for the help, I expect it to go well.

Sounds good Dave, but if you could please post if the motherboard fixed it. I really love hearing success.

Jake,
So far, so good. I installed the part last night. For a laymen, the job looks a little intimidating. I was afraid that I'd miswire the new mother board then I realized that the number of prongs on each set of wires was different. Anyway, after about a half hour, I heard ice drop from the ice maker and everything seemed back to normal this AM.

It was interesting though. The temperature display showed the freezer at 1 degree and refrigerator at 37 before I started the job. After I was done and power was restored, which was only 30-45 minutes later, the temperature displaced was 7 in the freezer and 41 in the refrigerator. I can't imagine that the temps came up that much, that fast, especially without opening the doors. I am thinking that the unit was not properly sensing or interpreting temperature data. Hopefully the fix is permanent. I'll let you know.

Thanks,
Dave
