Default Hotpoint Refridgerator

I have a hotpoint Model HSS221FMBWW side by side. We noticed that the fridge side was very warm, We have come to conclusion that it had frosted up. So we unplugged it with doors open for 24 hours. It leaked alot of water out the front from the freezer side. We have plugged it back in and now it is working fine. My question is where is the Defroster timer? Is it on the control board which is GE EBX1005G01, or is it behind the panel inside the freezer?

I know we have only did a temporary fix to the problem.

Thanks for you help!

Hi,

I got HSS22IFMBWW to work for me ( an i and not a 1 )

There isn't one.

Nope.
Board asm main control - Manufacturer part number WR55X10942

Normally we would ohm the defrost heater(s) and defrost thermostat first and if they check ok the mother board is replaced. If they do not check ok they are changed out before the board.

Thank You Very Much for your reply Jeff!

After further checking I believe the heater is bad. I removed the heater and noticed that the heater is black and has a black looking powder inside. I have not yet checked the heater with a meter. As I don't have one here at home. But I will get it and check it.

Can you tell me what ohm the heater and the thermostat are suppose to be?

If you have a multi-meter, check the resistance of the heater by disconnecting the wires from both end of the heater and, with the meter set to "OHMS", put one meter lead on each end of the heater. If you get no resistance reading, replace the heater.

Defrost thermostat will have full continuity when cold and none ( open ) when warm.
