Default [FIXED] 2002 GE Spacemaker Front Load Washer Outer Tub Leaking

This is a GE model WPXH214A0WW. It has been leaking from the outer tub at the bottom. I tightened several of the bottom bolts and the leak stopped for awhile. It is now leaking again and I think its time to do the repair. I have ordered the shell seal and also found some procedures with pictures on the web. I still have a few questions though. The spin has sounded louder than it used to. Is this a bearing or the transmission? I would like to do all of the repairs in one shot. Is there a repair manual available for this washer. I haven't been able to find one. Once I get the outer tub shell apart and put in the new seal what should I torque all the bolts to. They just screw into the plastic tub and I don't want to crack the plastic but I don't want it to leak again either. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Jake. The seal is a special order item from repair clinic so I won't have it for a few weeks. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!.

Jake,

I got the seal replaced and it seems to have fixed the leak but now it is going way off balance when it spins. I don't know what I could have done to cause this. Do you have any suggestions to what an amateur could have done? I am pretty meticulous so I don't think I screwed anything up during reassembly. Any advice is appeciated.

You got the top springs on correctly, and the bottom shocks on correctly?

Other than that, it should spin evenly.

Jake,

Springs and shocks checked out ok. I saw in another post to check the leveling legs. I took the kick panel off the front and ran a load. I saw during the spin that one of the legs did need adjusting. I'm not sure why since I never touched the legs and it was ok before the repair. In any case it appears that if a leg is even slightly off it causes the machine to turn into a bucking bronco. I guess it is the resonance effect like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that destroyed itself years ago when the wind caused it to oscillate at the proper frequency and caused it to collapse. Anyway, enough of the physics. Problem is solved. Thank you very much for all your help.
