Thread: GE Electrice Range - cannot control oven temperature

Hi,

How old is this range?

When the oven is on, only the bake element should be working(red hot).
Some of the older GE's used to use both the broil and bake elements just to preheat the oven when you first turned it on, but after that first preheat, only the lower bake element should only be on.

That model# is only part of it, there should be some numbers after that like: JB450G*J2

I am not sure how old the oven is. The house is like 30 years old but the kitchen was remodeled before we moved in. So I would guess it is 12-15 years old. The model is JB450G*J2 like you said.

If I turn it to bake the lower element glows red and I cannot control the temperature with the thermostat. If I turn it to broil the same thing happens for the upper element.

Ok, then that means your thermostat is bad, i looked up that model# and it said the digital clock/thermostat was no longer available.

Is yours the digital clock/thermostat?

First thanks for the help. No it does not have a digital thermostat. I looked it up last night and it looks like this one: http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/cgi...5320&brand=GEH

Not sure if it is the exact replacement but it looks like it.
