Our almost 2 year old side by side refrigerator has had a heater element, 2 auger motors, and 2 ice pans replaced since 11-6-04.
The last 6 times the repairman (service contract with store) has blown dry the frosted up freezer, freezer door & ice machine to get the ice machine to work!
The repairman said the problem is "it needs a new freezer door" and it is GE's problem!
    1. Only crushes ice when working (no whole cubes)
    2. Ice makes very loud noise (would wake up our neighbor)
    3. Freezer, freezer door & ice machine freezes & frosts up
    4. Ice machine stops working (but still makes ice)

Do you have any ideas of what may be wrong? This is my first brand new & side by side refrigerator!
    Thank you, Judy

    Hi Judy,

I have seen this model have problems with the ice dispenser door, it will stick open at times, causing condensation to form and frost and freeze up the ice bucket, auger, ice maker. The dispenser door solenoid is mainly the issue, I have replaced many.

The ice bucket metal arm that sticks out the back can jam up, trying moving that bar up and down to free any jammed ice. Make sure that rear solenoid plunger where that bar sits moves up and down too.

Sounds like you have quite a time with this unit.

That service contract should have a provision in it to have it either repaired or replaced, and 6 times seems abit much, i would be in e-mail contact with the higher-ups, if i was you.

    Hi Jake,
You were right! I called GE for a service call and GE came out & installed a kit for the freezer door moisture part wr49x10086. It was a door heater, they replaced it with a 10 volt that is required here in Florida for the humidity! The house call & parts no charge!
Our model gst22jemcww is the same as the gss model, just a different model # for the chain store where we purchased it.

GE also said that we need: 1. Cube solenoid #wr62x58 (inside the back,) next to the motor! 2.Auger motor boot # wr02x11295 which our contract service man took off, and is causing the freezing.
I want to thank you for your words of wisdom! If I hadn't found "Appliance Blog" Our contract service man would be here all summer blowing dry our freezer!
I will update you when (I hope) our contract replaces the later parts!
    Judy
