Default GE Profile SxS - Making lound noise - Evaptorator fan again ?

    Model Number: PSF26MGWCWW
    Brand: GE
    Age: 1-5 years

    Hi,

For the last 2 months our fridge/freezer has been making noises (guess it is getting old).

We have a service contract contract, which is about to expire (400% increase in cost !).

We have recently had a circuit board, evaporator fan and damper replaced. The noise has come back.

Our noise is loudest at the back of the freezer unit about 24" from the top. Perhaps in from the side about 4-6". It is loudest when I move the fridge away from the wall. I hear nothing when I open the freezer door. I hear the noise, but very muted, when I open the fridge door, at the top left by the fridge/freezer wall.

Is there another fan in the back of the freezer ?
Is there another moving part near the back outside surface of the freezer that can be making a loud buzzing sound ?

Does the "moisture kit" fix apply to our model (assuming it is a 2007) ?

    Thanks for your help.

Here's some more history as well.
    - About 2 months ago the fridge started making a high pitched whine. It wasn't so much that it was loud as the frequency was very annoying. The tech came out and replaced the circuit board. "This is normally the problem with these units". In fairness - he never heard the noise.
    - A couple weeks later a similar noise returned. This time the noise was louder and lower frequency. Tech came out and replaced the evaporator fan.
    - Couple weeks after that the noise came back. Tech came out with no parts. I also told him the fridge was making a clicking noise. He said it was probably the damper. He came back a week later replaced damper - but since I had not noticed the other noise since his last visit he did not replace the fan again.

I noticed where the fan was when he replaced it. It is just a little beneath the ice maker, above the top shelf, and above the light on the back of the freezer. The noise I am hearing today is coming from beneath the light, maybe 6-10 inches below where I think the fan is. I know sound travels and all. But the noise is loudest outside the fridge behind the freezer. You don't hear the noise from the inside of the freezer.

    Thanks again.

From the inside right wall of fridge : PSF26MGWCWW

By Fan motor do you mean the thing in the attached photo ? That is the same part he replaced once before. The one I've pictured here is the new one he didn't put in on his last visit.

Does the compressor have a fan ? Is there something else a little lower down (from the evap fan) that could be making the noise ?

    Thanks

I just came across this site (using the model number you asked for).
    http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/...d%253D29490414

Is it possible that the evaporator is loose and when the evap fan kicks into high gear it causes the evaporator to rattle ? (I'm just fishing)

Ok, that fan in the photo is the evaporator fan in your freezer, thats the only fan in your freezer.

Now on this model you have a custom cool fan, I believe thats in your refrigerator section about half-way down, do you see anything in your refrigerator section that says Custom Cool?

    Here's the fan for that:
The manufacturer has replaced part number WR60X10227 with this item, part number WR17X13035.

I've never changed this fan before, so I really don't know how to access it.

A fan like that came along with the new damper. It was up in the plastic and styrofoam. It sits near the top back of the fridge. Our fridge didn't have one of those and when he pulled the new damper in this fan made a racket. He removed it since there wasn't one there to begin with.

I guess my problems are with the evaporator fan again.

One last question. Does the "moisture kit" fix apply to our model (assuming it is a 2007) ?

    Thanks again.

Do you have a part# for that moisture kit so I can check?

Ok, then it has to be the evaporator fan thats making that noise, I'd first check to make sure the fan blade isn't rubbing on something before ordering a new one.

Here's the evaporator(freezer) fan motor for your model you can order here if needed:
