Default WCXH208V0WW No Fast Spin Cycle

    Model Number: WCXH208V0WW
    Brand: GE
    Age: 6-10 years

    Greetings,

Well here we are again . . . different time . . . same washer . . . last post on this washer August 2009, almost three years.

A problem arose today, and I have run the washer twice to verify: No fast spin cycle.

Seems to run through all cycles fine, just when on the fast spin cycle it simply sloshes around as if washing. When fast spin cycle pings complete it just stops, clothes sopping wet.

    Any thoughts?

It's a GE WCXH208V0WW (same as US WSXH208 and my understanding also the Frigidaire FWT449).

    Thanks everyone,

    Matthew

    Hi everyone,

A local technician thought the problem sounded like the Speed Control Board. Does this sound right to you?

If it were correct . . . is this replaced throught the top? Is it simple enough?

    Thanks!

    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,

Sounds like its not pumping the water out properly and that would cause a "no fast spin" issue.

You may have a clog in your drain motor, or a impeller fin or two is broken off inside it.

Remove the hoses and carefully look inside for clogs or broken impeller fins in the drain motor.

    UPDATE:

Removed the discharge pump. It was indeed blocked. The intake was completely jammed by a Purex 3-in-1 sheet. Never use these!:
    WCXH208V0WW No Fast Spin Cycle-3in1_spring_oasis.jpg

So I removed the pump, inspected the impellers (all ok), cleaned everything up, hooked it back together and ran a load for testing . . . no love.

At the Fast Spin cycle I can hear the pump working, I can hear water draining.

At one point the timer goes 'click' I can see the basket try to spin, then 'click' and it sloshes back down to bottom dead centre.
Then 'click' I can see the basket try to spin, then 'click' and it sloshes back into place.
Then 'click' it tries to spin, 'click' it sloshes back into place.
It seems to try this three times, it looks like it can quite get over a certain hump, tries to spin hangs there . . . then gives up.

Meanwhile the pump is still pumping.

After a bit it starts sloshing around, back and forth. Then stops.

    No fast spin.

    Any other ideas?

    Matthew

Is all the water out of the tub?

No Clothes in the tub either?

If still does the same thing then Test the door switch latch assembly first.

Remove the door lock assembly and
measure the resistance of the PTC.

The PTC is the wax motor on the door lock assembly. You will need an ohm meter to test that.

If it reads 1500 ohms, then its fine, and the problem would be the control board.

Its easiest to get to it from the top panel of your washer, take the top panel off then reach your arm down and pull it up, remove the electrical connectors to it. The electrical connectors may only allow you to pull it up a few inches until you remove them.

Here's the door latch/lock assembly for your model you can order:

I ran it with the towels I used to sop up the water from when I removed the pump.

Ok, if I understand correctly you want me to empty the tub of water and test without clothes. Shall do.

And then if the same thing happens then to test the door switch latch assembly following your instructions above.

    Right?

    Thank you Jake,

    Matt

Yes, but from what you said the drain pump was running, but there shouldn't still be water in it if the drain pump is running, so that tells me you still have a clog in it, or in the drain hose itself, thats why it won't do a fast spin.

    Ok . . . solved!

Removed the discharge pump again in order to examine the discharge hose from the drum. The pump intake was again completely jammed by another Purex 3-in-1 sheet!

Removed the sheet, stuck my fingers up into the drum, seemed clear, reassembled. Ran a test cycle, all pumped out perfectly.

Thank you for your help Jake!

See you in another three years!
