GE Electric Dryer Model Number: DDE7905SBLWW
History: Dryer stopped drying on Automatic Cycle so we have been using the Timed Cycle for the past couple of months. Over the past couple of weeks, it has sometimes taken 3 hours for a load to dry. Today, there is no heat at all when the dryer runs. Timer advances ok. Dryer will cycle throught the Automatic Cycle quickly without drying. Here's what all we have tried to test: (1) All venting is clear of lint, even disconnected from back of dryer. (2) Breaker in house is not tripped. Cycled the breakers off and back on to make sure. (3) Tested continuity on all thermostats and thermal fuses, all measure 0 ohms when wires are disonnected and dryer unplugged. We tested the HiLimit Thermostat, Safety Thermostat, and Thermal fuse mounted to the heating element housing, all have continuity. Also measured the two thermostats located near the exhaust duct in the rear of the dryer, get 0 ohms as well. (4) Disconnected wires from heating elements. Tested continuity from each terminal to the metal cage to make sure none of the elements were grounded. Good, no continuity there. (5) Disconnected wires from heating elements. Tested resistance between double coil and inner/outer coil. Each measured 19 ohms. (6) Tested the dryer temperature switch by removing wire from terminal 15, then took a reading between terminal 15 and terminal 16, get 0 ohms there. (7)Tested the dryer timer by first setting the timer to 60 minutes. We then removed the wire from terminal A. We then took a reading between terminal A and terminal B, and got 0 ohms. We then kept the leads on those two terminals and rotated the timer and had continuity throughout the 70 minute cycle. There are visible charred contacts in the area of Terminals A,B,and C on the Timer, that is the only thing we see visibly. However, the Timer does advance correctly, and since the dryer does not dry on Automatic Dry (not timed dry), I would assume that it doesn't utilize the Timer Feature and maybe our problem is not the timer? What else is there to test? |

Sounds like you tested everything very throughly.
![]() But, The first thing I always test before I test everything you did, is I test to make sure your dryer is getting the proper voltage 240 volts. I have seen lots of dryers run perfect on 120 volts, but won't try at all, because it needs 240 for the heating element to work. So I would use your volt meter to check for 240 volts where your dryer cord pig-tail connects to your dryer. Jake
