Default GE gas dryer, humming.

This is my first post and visit to this site. So far I think I answered my own question by reading the other posts but wanted to verify.

I have a GE gas dryer. On/Off switch, timer control, door safety switch all seem to be working. When switch is turned to the start position, all I hear is a humming noise. I believe my problem is a bad motor. The motor's shaft, belt tension pulley and drum all rotate without any problem in both directions. Belt is fraid but intact. (I planning on changing the belt as well) Am I correct in thinking the motor is shot. Hence, I need to make a purchase?

If motor is bad, are these difficult to change? How about the belt? If so, is it worth buying new appliance?????

Thanks in advance,

Don
